What Good Will Filipinos Winning In Foreign Competitions Do If The Philippines Refuses To Open Its Door To Foreign Competitors?

I don't care anymore about Gilas winning or losing for this reason - it doesn't matter if Filipinos will win in foreign competitions IF the Philippines still refuses to open its door to foreign competitors. I remembered how we've had some Filipinos who won not only in basketball but also in the other sports and arts. Remember Paeng Nepomuceno, Cecil Licad, Lydia De Vega, Lea Salonga-Chien, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, and Leandro Locsin? What about the most recent that two years ago - a Filipina singer in Japan made it big namely Beverly Caimen? I have nothing against Filipinos winning in competitions. In fact, I was happy for Gilas that they managed to win before. However, their wins didn't translate anything much for the Philippines. They didn't make the Philippines a progressive country because of one rule started by that stupid Carlos P. Garcia - the Filipino First Policy. Garcia deserves to be called a hero - a hero for economic protectionism which was followed by Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. and Cory Aquino. It's only proper to bury Marcos near Garcia because they are both pioneers in crony capitalism.

I remembered I wrote an entry with the problem of bragging how great Filipinos are while hating competition. Do Filipinos winning in foreign competition prove that Filipinos are supposedly the master race of the world? If that were true then why isn't the Philippines the most powerful nation in the world today? Why has it been bullied by the dragon that's China for several years over Scarborough Shoal (where the Dilawans may make it their future home)? Also, do they know how these Filipinos who won foreign competitions get their mark and bring home the bacon? It has NOTHING to do with Filipino blood or Filipino racial purity. The truth is these Filipinos that won foreign awards DID NOT WIN at the first attempt. I can't imagine how Locsin just went to Brunei and won his award. No, he had to really sharpen his skills as an architect. I heard Regine herself was even at the river to strengthen her voice. Licad would have to practice her piano skills before getting that award. Filipino greatness is tackled on both knowing what you're good at and working hard on it then joining into competitions. These people embraced competition so competition haters have NO RIGHT to ride on them.

Do I need to tell you that the protectionist mindset is for LOSERS? They're probably still stuck in the like that the OFW phenomenon means that Filipinos are conquering the world and that foreign investors are foreign invaders. Just where did they get that nonsense? If OFWs are "invading" other countries or it's a form of conquest - why aren't the first world countries where OFWs are working at still INDEPENDENT of the Philippines? Why aren't foreign dignitaries bowing down and sending their surrenders to the President of the Philippines? Why didn't Shinzo Abe or Xi Jinping arrive and bow down to surrender to the Philippine government? If foreign investors were invading other countries then why hasn't South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia been taken over by foreign governments? Did Japanese investments turn South Korea into a colony of the said country again after the demise of the Empire of Japan? Did China become an American colony for receiving American investments? These countries are still independent in terms of governance. These scare-mongering tactics by the likes of Bayad Muna, IBON Foundation, Migraine International, Anak Ng Bayad, Kayabagang Partyist, and the like isn't working. Hmmm... maybe they need to ask did the New People's Army's founder Jose Maria Sison invade the Netherlands which is a country that greatly benefits from foreign investment?

Allowing foreign competitors to get 50% to 100% ownership in the Philippines would be beneficial for these reasons. No, don't believe the lie that only foreign investors will get rich in the scenario. Don't tell me that foreign investors aren't taxed for their income and that they forfeit their rights to do business in the Philippines if they don't pay up? More businesses mean more competition and more competition means more choices. In the midst of the threats - there are opportunities for local Filipino businessmen to grow. If your customers have more competitors then doesn't that mean you may have more customers now? If your service providers have more competitors then doesn't that mean you may have a wider choice to help you in your business now? The reality is economic protectionism has stunted the growth of Filipino businesses. Why would you innovate if the presence of competition is barely there? Competition keeps people on their toes and there are set rules to follow at the same time.

As said, you want to show the greatness of the Filipino? Then stop whining about foreign investors as threats and see them as opportunities. Invite competition into the Philippines. Stop dreaming of conquering the world with OFWs and foreign investors invading the Philippines. Stop looking at competition as a battlefield and start embracing it as a friendly game. Discourage unhealthy competition and embrace only healthy competition!
