The Late Lydia De Vega-Mercado's Athletic Achievements Show Why Competition Is Good

It was a sad say indeed when Lydia De Vega-Mercado died of breast cancer after some time. She finally left the world at the young age of 57. I remembered back in elementary when she was taught among the great Filipino athletes. Sadly, so many Filipinos only saw her accomplishments but NEVER her struggles. GMA-7 showed a  Magpakailanman episode which   featured Princess Punzalan as Lydia in an episode. I never saw the episode but the trailer showed one thing - NO SUCCESS WITHOUT A STRUGGLE! Some Filipinos tend to shout "PENOY PRAYD!" to the success of their countrymen WHILE they hate competition in their own country . Lydia NEVER won the medals she won automatically. Instead, she competed many times before she achieved. She went across competition to competition before she had her awards. Though, she finally gave up from active competition in 1994 to focus on her family.  Try reading her  impressive biography before her well-deserved retirement from active competitio...

Let's Stop POLITICIZING Hidilyn Diaz's Gold Medal, OKAY?

Congratulations to Hidilyn Diaz for the gold medal. I'm amazed at how her win got POLITICIZED by the DILAWANS and also the DDS which I'm now neither. I mean, being a Dilawan or a DDS ain't forever - it just takes a mistake from which side, and people keep becoming butterflies. Now, it would be time to get some facts straight in. If I'm not wrong, the late Noynoy Aquino did sign certain laws into action that allowed (and obliged) the Duterte Administration to give the benefits to Hidilyn Diaz. I guess it'd be entirely wrong to blame Noynoy on the lack of sponsorship that Michael Christian Martinez didn't have during the Aquino Administration - I'd blame lousy lawmakers and the LOUSY SYSTEM. The win was politicized to make it another blot against President Rodrigo R. Duterte. Again, I'm not against criticism against the president if you happen to be like the late Carlos Celdran . The problem is when one's a Duterte critic and offers NO solutions with t...

Michael Christian Martinez Will Participate In PyeongChang Olympics This February 9-25, 2018

Yup, you heard it right. Michael Christian Martinez is qualified to join the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. I could remember writing a post wishing that he would join the Winter Olympics and I got my wish. Yup, it's here. Here's what GMA-7 has to say about the event: Filipino figure skater Michael Martinez will compete in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. This came after Martinez took over the slot of Sweden's Alexander Majorov, who was not allowed by the Olympic committee of Sweden to participate. The Filipino skater placed 8th in the Nebelhorn Trophy Competition last September, which made him miss a secured spot in the Olympics. However, he was alternate, thus was able to take over Majorov's spot. Martinez said he could not believe he'll be competing again in the Olympics. He is currently training in California with his coach Vyachelsav Zagorodnuyk (Coach Slava). Martinez will work on cleaning up his routine and nailing down his tech...

The 2018 Winter Olympics Will Be Held In Pyeongchang NOT Pyongyang

I guess I'll devote more posts on economics and business again even if I'm no economist. I read it last last October 31, 2017 that the Olympic Flame was received in Pyeogyang not Pyeongchang . Maybe I'm just writing this post because of my fondness for South Korea's culture. Somehow, I'm glad that the Winter Olympics for 2018 will be held in South Korea. Here's a question: if you were the organizer would you want to hold the games in North Korea? I wouldn't. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that North Korea would not be the best place for the Olympics. In the first place, if economic protectionism is so good why is South Korea doing much better than North Korea ? Why is it that all the Korean products enjoyed worldwide are from South Korea and not from North Korea? Would you want to endorse a huge event in a country that's walking backwards like North Korea or would you like to do it in a country like South Korea? In South Korea, you don...
