Many Filipinos Have Been Long Stuck With The Loser Mindset Because Of Economic Protectionism

A bad system breeds more bad people than good people. For anybody to say that there are no bad systems is just like a person who gives bad equipment and expects his or her skilled workers to do a good job. It has always been all about BOTH people and systems and that 4Ps-obsessed old man still insists that it's just the people but not the system. I don't have to be a political analyst or systems analyst to understand systems and people at a basic level. I remembered writing about well-behaved Filipinos in progressive countries AND dysfunctional Filipinos in their home country. So what's contributing to the massive success of Filipinos in other countries vs. the massive failure of Filipinos in their homeland? I would blame the lousy system and one of its many components is the ushering of economic protectionism.

If you wonder why I'm using Neri Colmenares as the poster boy here is for this reason -- he's a real loser that fails to do anything relevant to improve Filipinos. Do you remember what he said about foreign investors that they will drive Filipino-owned businesses down one way or another? The stupidity he has already is a microcosm of the long prevalent loser mentality that has plagued Filipinos. Filipinos with a loser mentality can go ahead and claim to be so manly but they ironically hate competition of any kind. The prevalence of economic protectionism means that Filipino businesses have very little competition. Feeding them with lies like the loss of sovereignty is perpetuated by losers like Toady Casino who wrote a rather facedesk article at CRappler.

Why do I say that economic protectionism helped breed a loser culture among Filipinos? It's a lack of competition that has made them incompetent. Economic protectionism has been pampering infant industries that will never grow up because of pampering. If you keep pampering infant industries then when will they grow? When will they have the opportunity to get more customers if you keep pampering them? The result has been that the gap between rich and poor has increased in the Philippines thanks to protectionism. If people are given only limited choices for customers and service providers then how can these infant industries grow? As a result, many Filipinos have ended up seeing competition as a battlefield rather than as a playing field.

Why do Filipinos when sent to competitive countries become competitive? It's because there's no competitiveness without competition. Do you remember how long it took PLDT to connect its lines before Globe came in? But just imagine if the Philippines has more telecommunication companies then maybe both PLDT and Globe will end up evolving in order to survive. You can think about how the late Leandro Locsin became an award-winning architect in Brunei -- a country known for its architecture. It was the presence of competition that molded Locsin into a better architect. Lea Salonga-Chien and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid were able to show the greatness of the Filipino again by competing against many people before they won their awards. The keyword is always COMPETITION that helped mold great Filipinos into great Filipinos.

So really, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH of the loser mentality. The Philippines should revoke economic protectionism and make Filipinos staying in the Philippines have a winner culture. Otherwise, more and more competent Filipinos will leave the country resulting in a brain drain.
