"Vagabond Season 2" Filming In The Philippines Should Be Looked As An OPPORTUNITY, NOT A THREAT

One time, Senator Unggoy Estrada nearly got into hot water for his dumb proposal (which he later recanted) namely banning K-Dramas. What teleseryes need is COMPETITION with other TV dramas - not more protectionism. Whether we want to admit it or not - local Philippine TV networks are KEPT ALIVE through badly dubbed imported TV dramas. A recent update is that Vagabond Seaosn 2 will film in the Philippines. I'm either surprised (or not). Suzy Bae has a couple of shows that made it big in the Philippines such as Uncontrollably Fond on GMA-7 and Dream High on ABiaS-CBN. Lee Seung Gi is remembered not just for a couple of K-Dramas such as Shining Inheritance and My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. Seung Gi is also remembered for being Gong Cha's endorser for some time. Many Filipinos probably still remember those shows.

A possible cause of the delays was the Legacy Virus pandemic. I could imagine that Koreans were treated like the mutants in the X-Men: The Animated Series "Time Fugitives" arc. Now, the long-awaited Vagabond sequel has happened. Interestingly, Chavit Singson will have a role in the production presumably due to the filming in the Philippines. What's with the Philippines that the production company decided to film here? Would it involve some corruption case or what? It almost reminds me of Almost Paradise - an American series filmed in the Philippines.

I could imagine the mixed reception right now. The Kapamilya star's attitude during the Legacy Virus pandemic was ANYTHING but admirable. I also wonder what "Lucifer" Hoydurian will say especially he thinks ABiaS-CBN teleseryes are at par. "Lucifer" probably watched Glitch thinking it was Angel Locsin and Shaina Magdayao who played the main leads. There may be local stars demanding more protection. I can expect nationalist groups protesting against South Korean "exploitation" then hypocritically go for Korean grill at the end of the day.

This event should convince teleserye makers to FREAKING CHANGE THE FORMULA. No more to the arduous weeknight schedule and go for a WEEKLY SCHEDULE. I tried watching The Haunted on ABiaS-CBN's YouTube and said, "This should be how teleseryes should be handled." Instead, the same old formula persisted. Ang Probinsyano became an incredibly pointless TV series. The finale is anything but worth talking about. A lot of random stuff happened such as Cardo Dalisay becoming Vincenzo in a bad way. Fortunately, Coconuts Martin wasn't assigned to a Pinoy adaptation of Vincenzo. However, GMA-7 might attempt to do so.

Unfortunately, a wrong sense of nationalism is why Filipino shows can be SO BAD. They had more than a decade to shake up the formula. Meteor Garden entered the Philippine soil in the 2000s. Now, it's already 2024. Hopefully, this project will push through because Filipino producers definitely NEED MORE COMPETITION.
