It's Not About The Yellows, It's About The Presidential System!

Some time ago, I remembered writing about the Liberal Party's theatrics. However, we must realize that the pictures above of Kikoman Pangilinan as an el agricultor, Vice President Leni Loud Robredo as an el pintora, Bum Aquino as an El Mason, and Mar Roxas as an el carpentero are but SYMPTOMS of a much bigger problem - the PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM! Some call it showbiz politics. It can also be alternatively called theatrical politics. Some STUPID Diehard Duterte Supporters (DDS) can go ahead and smear the Dilawans over the theatrics. However, the real problem in itself is NOT the Dilawans but the very system that allowed the Dilawans to get into power in the first place. Better said, it's the very system that encouraged the behaviors of the Dilawans to do their theatrics.

The late Jesse Robredo (also a member of the Liberal Party) that it's not enough to have good people - you must have a system that enforces people to do good. Well, the presidential system doesn't do that. It's because the presidential system is based on theatrics to start with. For a start, the presidential system's stupidity is based on popularity-driven systems. It's even a serious error to say that democracy must be based on popularity. However, popularity-based democracies are tyrannies of the majority. Democracy has always been defined as a government OF the people, BY the people, and FOR the people - minorities are part of the people! The majority wins BUT it doesn't mean the minority doesn't have a voice. Sadly, the presidential system is more of mob rule than democracy.

The late Dilawan, Carlos Celdran, was also an advocate for system change. I'm amazed at how Benign0 demonized the guy. Celdran, though he was wrong to wish the president dead, told the truth that the problem is the SYSTEM. True, Celdran was an endorser of the Roxas-Robredo Tandem. Now, only if the Dilawans would just listen to their fellow Dilawan, Celdran, rather than ride on Jover Laurio's Pignoy Ako Blog. Celdran managed to show how the current constitution is holding the Philippines back. Celdran, though anti-Duterte, is an advocate for charter change. Celdran's advocacy proves that it's no longer a matter of DDS vs. Dilawan - it's all about the SYSTEM!

Dilawans could go ahead and raise that Duterte made that impossible promise. I agree but that's how you win in a presidential system. The late Noynoy Aquino got popular because of the death of his mother Cory Cojuangco-Aquino and the "Kung walang corrupt ay walang mahirap." campaign. The big issue is that, again, the presidential system encourages more theatrics than solutions. It's really painful to see how Pangilinan and Leni Loud (both lawyers), as well as Bum and Mar (both businessmen), fall so low. Before, one can't help but be amazed that Bum and Mar had an impressive record in business. I mean, Mar even won a Lee Kuan Yew award! However, the presidential system ended up causing them to throw their brilliant minds out of the window and go for theatrics.

A parliamentary system would've probably encouraged the Yellows to do better than they are now. If Noynoy were a prime minister then chances of him saying, "Eh di wow!" or "Hindi ko alam!" may be rather slim. It's probably because Noynoy as a Member of the Parliament for several years would be set to debate. Also, if Noynoy were a prime minister then he would've probably humbly resigned over Mamasapano. Parliamentary systems encourage more accountability which would mean Noynoy would've probably apologized over the botched negotiations during the Manila Hostage Crisis. Maybe, just maybe, we would be seeing Bum and Mar continue to give out brilliant ideas than their current state. Maybe, Leni Loud herself wouldn't be in her current pa-epal state.

I don't care if the Yellows become relevant again. What I care more is about replacing the defective system. I don't care if Mar becomes prime minister leading the Yellow Government in a parliamentary system. It's because parliamentary systems will encourage everyone to do better. Even the Yellows can still do better under a parliamentary system.
