Will Leftist Lawmakers Pass A Law To Oblige Filipinos To Support The Lousy Local Media?

I remembered last 2013 when the Philippine Congress passed a proposal that would ban Filipinos' rights from bringing media from abroad. Fortunately, the proposal wasn't signed by Noynoy Aquino himself. Now, the recent ABiaS-CBN fiasco where its airwaves are currently under suspension until further notice. Allegedly, they have misused the airwaves and that they already were getting into trouble last 2014 for that. I guess not even Noynoy could've helped them gain the franchise so why blame President Rodrigo R. Duterte for the current fiasco? The National Telecommunications Commission or NTC was the one that had the cease and desist order - not the Malacanang. I guess the lack of citizen support through Change.org was one contributing factor. They wanted one million signatures to get ABiaS-CBN's government franchise restored but it failed. This could be a source of reason for leftist lawmakers especially the terrible three - Carlos Zarate (Heneral Lunatic), Antonio Tinio, and Sarah Elago. Just remember that communist lawmakers were backing up ABiaS-CBN's franchise renewal.

Drastic times call for drastic measures, right? Get Real Support (which is an extension of Get Real Philippines) has a recent article called "Filipinos are not obliged to support local media". The short itself gave me the idea that maybe the leftist lawmakers are already preparing a new law that will make it an obligation for Filipinos to support local media. Elago herself might have wanted to pass that kind of law if ever Shin Hye Sun played as Seo Dan in Crash Landing on You. Also, Toady Casino himself even tweeted at how Duterte allegedly shut down ABiaS-CBN (as if ABiaS-CBN isn't operating outside free airwaves) and it was conveniently done during a pandemic. Not to mention, Rigoberto Tiglao also wrote the possible connections between ABiaS-CBN, the Marcoses, and the Filipino communists. Antonio Trillanes IV's rabid support of the network and the anti-Duterte ad (which I heard he paid for) may make you suspicious. Trillanes' current teaching stint at the University of the Philippines might be proof that he might be a high-ranking member of the New People's Army. Casino can deny he's a communist all he wants but actions speak louder than words. Bayad Muna is a communist front pretending to fight for democracy.

Remember Erik Matti's complaint about K-Drama overtaking teleseryes? I've made up some imagined scenarios. Here are the possible provisions that the bill that will be dubbed as the "Pinoy Media Supremacy Bill" will hold:
  • This will be a bill that will require Filipinos to patronize local media. That is they are mandated to buy at least one OPM new release and patronize one teleserye. Failure to do so will mandate a penalty one month's worth of salary.
  • That Netflix Philippines (and other related services) will only show Filipino shows all the time. That's right - you can forget about watching foreign shows. Strict monitoring of Netflix will be done so that all Netflix subscribers can't bail out and must watch at least one show. It will serve as a provision if you can't watch teleseryes because of work and studies.
  • Remember the libel clause of the anti-cybercrime law? Well, you can expect that bloggers who badmouth Filipino entertainment will suffer imprisonment of two years or more and a fine of PHP 100,000.00 or even higher. Offenses such as giving a thumbs down on the Internet will also be considered a cybercrime and said person is candidacy for arrest.
  • That the local Filipino networks such as ABS-CBN and GMA-7 will no longer be required to renew their franchise every 25 years. They will have the right to dominate both satellite and cable. Think about foreign channels? They will be gone as only proudly Pinoy channels will be shown in both media.
  • No Filipino is allowed to bring in any media from abroad. Airports will now be very strict with making sure that none of them slip through. Bringing in media will be a violation of smuggling laws and will be dealt with accordingly. Also, mobile phones must contain only OPM music and failure to do so will warrant stiff penalties.
  • The next mission is to bring Pinoy entertainment worldwide. Tourists are not allowed to leave the Philippines unless they buy at least one Pinoy entertainment medium.

That are just a few ridiculous provisions that I could think of. Knowing them, it's all about their power struggle or their Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler, right? I bet they will get a share of the profits of the local networks so they can pursue their own selfish interests if they succeed. Their nationalism has always been questionable at best. It would be just to serve their own selfish, power hungry interests. They would just want to have their own power struggle. For all you know, the lawmakers will probably break the law thinking themselves above the law. Regardless, Filipinos must be vigilant and may want to consider that this might happen just anytime, right?
