Shaina Magdayao's Joining The New York Asia Film Festival Jury Meaningless If ABiaS-CBN Still Goes Against Reforming The 1987 Constipation

Last year, I wrote about Shaina Garcia Magdayao going to the Busan International Film Festival. What I missed yesterday was that Shaina herself got chosen to be part of the New York Asia Film Festival at New York

Filipina actress Shaina Magdayao represented the Philippines at the New York Asia Film Festival (NYAFF) as part of the Uncaged Competition with esteemed jury members.

Joining her are Tony Bui (Vietnamese-US director, "Three Seasons"), Shao-yi Chen (Taiwan Screenworks Asia producer, Screenworks Asia), Felix Tsang (Hong Kong’s Golden Scene sales & acquisitions manager), Nonkul Chanon Santinatornkul (Thai star of box office hit "Bad Genius"), and Aliza Ma (Head of Programming, the Criterion Channel).

NYAFF also announced that the recipient of this year’s Screen International Star Asia Award will be Nicholas Tse, a Hong Kong actor, singer, songwriter, entrepreneur and TV chef.

It's very easy to scream Penoy Prayd whenever a Filipino makes it big abroad, AM I RIGHT? Well, I'm getting tired of the double standards. Jollibee enters another country? Filipinos shout, "PENOY PRAYD!" However, when amendments are made toward foreign direct investments (FDIs) in the Philippines -- it's very easy to shout nonsense stuff like the Philippines is being invaded. What do you expect from a group of people who think Jollibee opening up in some other country is an "invasion"?

This reminds me of how I spelled out ABiaS-CBN's INCREDIBLY MASSIVE FAILURE OF THE MIND. If there's one thing worth nothing -- remember the ROTTEN ATTITUDE that ABiaS-CBN celebrities showed during the pandemic compared to that the South Korean celebrities. What I highlighted during ABiaS-CBN's failure of the mind is that it defends the 1987 Constipation. Why I call it as such is because the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines has a lot of defects that need to be CoRRECTED. That includes the 100% Pinoy-only owned mass media law. Both ABiaS-CBN and CRappler defend the same piece of paper that served their own downfall. Rules for me but not for thee? Maria Ressa wins several awards... SO WHAT? Not one single award by Ressa created employment for Filipinos. Neither will Ressa's awards ever boost FDIs. ABiaS-CBN getting the privilege of joining a foreign competition... SO WHAT? It's meaningless because their foreign awards will mean NOTHING if they still support the 1987 Constipation.

Let Shaina go and fly over to the New York Asia Film Festival. It might be an educational experience for her and ABiaS-CBN. However, let's also talk about how ABiaS-CBN has been enjoying the benefits of being pampered for too long. The Imperial Manila Film Festival has long celebrated mediocrity. Do we need to mention Senator Unggoy Estrada's stupid proposal to ban K-Dramas? I couldn't imagine if Unggoy did it in parliament. Chances are that Unggoy would've been voted out. Fortunately, Unggoy got so much flak but it'd be better if he was removed by a motion of no confidence. Maybe, I need to talk about how teleseryes are still STUCK WITH THE SAME OLD FORMULAS. If Filipino movies can shake things up -- why not the teleseryes too? Why not make teleseryes a WEEKLY THING INSTEAD like international dramas? Hopefully, Shaina will learn something from it, and ABiaS-CBN will decide to shape things up!
