ABiaS-CBN's Massive Failure Of Mind

ABiaS-CBN really has been making rather questionable decisions resulting in its massive failure of mind. I don't think that the guys of Kadamay, Kayabangan Partylist, or Bayad Muna protested for their renewal for free. If they think that they can get sympathy by paying commie groups to "defend democracy" then it's horribly misguided. Then again, Rigoberto Tiglao had written an article that may prove the links between ABiaS-CBN, the Marcos regime, and the communist fronts. The Marcos years can be seen as a communist state with how it was operated by crony capitalism. Some Marcos loyalists still believe that the privatization of certain companies after the "golden years" is a bad thing. I think it was right to put services back to the hands of private owners. What's wrong is when you only favor Filipino private investors without letting foreign investors compete. What's wrong? Are you thinking that only foreigners will get rich if you let them invest in the Philippines?

Where's ABiaS-CBN's failure of mind? It's not that they criticize President Duterte. There's nothing wrong with news media having a different view from the government. They were simply stuck in the pampered oligarch model. Any oligarch-owned business seems to have a Bondying as its owner. Bondying was a character that never grew up. The lack of competition is jarring. Yet, you've got people like Winnie Monsod and Raissa Robles who say that first world countries didn't progress by foreign investments. You also have people like Teddy Casino and Neri Colmenares who are against foreign investments while wearing imported stuff. The result of the years of going against economic charter change just caused ABiaS-CBN to go against something that could've benefited it in the long run.

Why am I talking about what could've benefited it in the long run? For one, the "shutdown" ABiaS-CBN is having is not a corporate shutdown. No, they are still operational via digital means. It's like Rappler still can operate in spite of some violations of the really bad constitution. IMHO, I don't care if Rappler can still operate as long as the negative list for mass media is forever negated. It's just that they can no longer use the government franchise. They swore to defend the 1987 "best constitution in the world" right? Unfortunately, they have broken the rules about 100% pure Pinoy mass media only. They have been secretly having foreign ownership with them. If that law didn't exist - ABiaS-CBN could've continued operating. I'm in favor of getting rid of the 100% Pinoy mass media law even if it means ABiaS-CBN could still operate. Another is that by opposing economic reforms - the Philippines has been trapped in a duopoly dilemma. Either you get Globe or PLDT but where are the other telcos? Fearing foreign telcos may invade the Philippines, aren't we? The result has to be the Philippines with the SLOWEST INTERNET. We're moving to the digital age yet why is the Philippines still THAT SLOW? It's because 7,107 islands vs. two telecommunication offices won't suffice. Also, it's slow but expensive Internet because of the law of supply and demand.

I remembered reading an article from Yugatech on how ABiaS-CBN could survive without a government franchise. The big problem though it's not feasible for this reason. ABiaS-CBN could've benefited from supporting the pro-foreign investment stand because there will be many telcos available. The more telecommunication companies mean - the faster Philippine Internet speed will be. It's because the more providers mean the more demand will be filled in. In turn, when supply is up then prices will naturally go down. ABiaS-CBN could survive WITHOUT the need for a government franchise if Internet speed were fast and affordable. However, by choosing to oppose reforms, the Philippines still suffers from slow, expensive Internet as a result of too much demand and too little supply. Can you expect Globe and PLDT to fill up all the demands for Internet services in the Philippines? Slow and expensive Internet because of too much demand and too little supply? Well, good luck to ABiaS-CBN going digital if too few people can now watch their shows. Did they really think that the government will forever grant them a franchise? Did they not realize that TV is nearly becoming extinct in the digital age? I wonder if they even bothered to realize that more people would read or watch their news online than on TV?

Maybe, I should mention the celebrities are probably and mostly brain-dead too? They're just as brain-dead that they've been in and promoting. Many of them tend to be all form without substance. That's why you see Coconuts Martin on the top of the page to represent this opinion piece I have. A lot of their Instagram says #NoToABSCBNShutdown. Do they even realize that they're not really shut down as a company but only from the free frequency? If anything, ABiaS-CBN is still pretty much operational with its cable channels like AbiaS-CBN News Channel or ANC. You can still check ABiaS-CBN's news site. ABiaS-CBN still has its Youtube channel active. Did they not observe the trend on Netflix that a show can premiere once or twice a week or that there's such a thing as a web series? Consider the fact that The Haunted available on ABiaS-CBN Entertainment's Youtube channel. The series itself could also be placed on Netflix or any platforms that they can think of. They could at least try and see how ongoing K-Dramas like Rugal and Kingdom: Eternal Monarch are doing things. For example, they could start making their teleseryes with a WEEKLY SCHEDULE. Maybe, have a Friday premiere and just do it ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK schedule for a change. The news will still not change. They can still premiere live on their site or on Facebook. Then again, the celebrities themselves should've spent time endorsing economic reforms that would've provided the company and its employees a safety net. Instead, by opposing it, how much of a safety net do they have now considering the very slow and expensive Internet? The paawa effect isn't working. In fact, I even have doubts Kim Chiu was really ambushed due to how unbelievable it is. What's next? Cry rape when there's no rape? They better be careful considering that they do have some really attractive actresses there.

Considering ABiaS-CBN's massive failure of mind - isn't it any wonder that its supporters also have that ONGOING failure of mind too? They opposed everything that could have benefited them in the long run. I guess all they saw with letting foreign investors in were the threats rather than the opportunities they could have had. They failed to see that they could've had more customers, better equipment, and faster Internet would mean they don't have to rely on congressional hearings for free airwaves. They could've gotten better equipment that would've made ABiaS-CBN a network that stands out. The network should reflect on their opportunity loss attained with years of antagonizing reforms. They should think outside the box together on how they can survive in the digital age of COMPETITION than whine about it.
