Just a Photoshop, CHILL!!!!! |
I normally didn't want to watch the show. The show had a total whopping of 1696 episodes exceeding that of the 1990s teleserye Mara Clara. I don't actually regret NOT updating on it. However, I decided to watch the finale so I can at least write this review. I would confess that the whole finale was something. The Team Agila had died after a failed hostage rescue mission. It was heartbreaking to see Taskforce Agila perish. Though, I felt the whole stupidity of Cardo surviving way too many times. The finale did it as well.
It's understandable that Agila perished. I can't be sure though if their botched hostage rescue was a result of incompetence. The possibility of not returning alive was there. There were some degrees of realism added. However, Cardo gets shot MANY TIMES and it was severe blood loss. Cardo was nearly shot but President Oscar Hidalgo saves him. Cardo is later found in the hospital but NOT IN THE ICU? I think the realism of Agila's death was just diminished. The scene where the members of Team Agila were given a heroic funeral was one thing. Why in the world wasn't Cardo among the dead? If the show wanted realism - giving Cardo a heroic death would've fit in after that ridiculously bloody injury he had.
Instead, Cardo is seen at the hospital but not in the ICU. Cardo wakes up realizing many of his friends and his paternal grandmother Flora are no longer around. The finale had a tribute to the late Susan Roces by putting her actual birth and date of death on the tombstone. Cardo moves around like it was nothing. If the show wanted realism - Cardo should've been in a wheelchair, an invalid, and still in trauma after the gunshot wounds. Maybe, have Cardo be taken care of by loved ones if he was to survive those shots. Instead, Cardo walks around like the multiple gunshot wounds were nothing.
Coconuts Martin did have a role where he died - a Maalaala Mo Kaya episode in honor of the SAF-44. It was back when Angel Locsin Colmenares-Arce didn't annoy me yet. I felt Cardo should've been among the dead soldiers given their honors. Also, I felt Lola Flora should've just been announced dead ASAP rather than wait until the episode ended. I think Cardo should've been shot, President Hidalgo kills the final villain, then Cardo starts to die. Cardo should've been mentioning the names of his fallen comrades, and acknowledging that his Lola Flora is no longer around. Maybe, have Cardo say, "Lola, see you soon." before he dies. Have a memorial service after that.
This is quite a far cry from any realistic cop drama. Cardo's made godlike to a certain extent. Any police drama makes the heroes more vulnerable. I felt Kill It's tragic finale where Kim So Hyun (Jang Ki Yong) was SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES AND DIED. So Hyun, a supposedly godlike sniper, met his tragic end when the SWAT team did an overkill after he killed his biological father in front of his adopted sister (and lover) Do Hyun Jin. There are also later scenes that tried to make Cardo a poor man's Vincenzo. I'm still WTFed over the scene Cardo brutally executes Armando. It was trying to pull off a Vincenzo when Cardo wasn't meant to be Vincenzo.
Though, one might take comfort that the show is MERCIFULLY ENDING. I think the problem of the 1696 episodes is that "It it worth a rewatch?" It's like having to read through all your books since pre-school to college or worse. It's really comparable to a book report that any college professor will mercilessly rip to pieces. Well, it looks like after this show, Coconuts may get the Nobel Peace Prize after all. Maria Ressa got it, now let Coconuts have it to. I'd say let Coconuts receive the Nobel Peace Prize should he get it. After all, the Nobel Peace Prize lost its prestige some time ago and this show has too.
