ABiaS-CBN Supporters' Still Ongoing Failure Of Mind

Let's consider the whole reality of ABiaS-CBN. Back then, I remembered writing about the failure of mind of its supporters. Now, it's time to consider the "shutdown" of ABiaS-CBN. Yup, the franchise is EXPIRED. Now, we've got the whole #NoToABSCBNShutdown going on. At this point, I wonder do the celebrities really know the reality of the situation? It's even on social media where the celebrities have their #IStandWithABSCBN hashtag. But guess what - ABiaS-CBN's News Channel or ANC is still OPERATIONAL because it's always been meant to be on paid frequency. The government franchise for ABiaS-CBN is ended but it can still operate as a corporation.

Yugatech has an article called "6 Ways ABS-CBN can operate without a franchise" way back in February 2020. Yes, that means ABiaS-CBN is still OPERATIONAL except outside of the unpaid frequency. ABiaS-CBN can still do cable channels, movies, and online. They can still use Facebook, Youtube, Netflix, iWantPH, TVC.tv, and Apple TV. They may have lost their right to free frequency but they can still operate as a DIGITAL network. Speaking of Netflix - I don't see any of ABiaS-CBN's or GMA-7's teleseryes making it to the top ten in the Philippines. ABiaS-CBN could've taken heed of that but they probably enjoyed too much of the free frequency which allowed their sh*tty teleseryes to gain popularity for some time. I guess that's why they are also so against constitutional reform because they wanted to remain on top all the time.

One of the biggest mistakes ABiaS-CBN (and its supporters) made is by going against badly-needed constitutional reform that could have benefited THEM. Think back then of all the fearmongering that was placed during the time of Fidel V. Ramos and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo regarding constitutional reform. Would have Ramos and Arroyo succeeded - the Philippines would have gone with open economies. The Philippines as an archipelago means the duopoly of Globe and PLDT is NOT ENOUGH. What are the anti-constitutional reforms thinking? Do they want the government to magically make Internet speed faster when it's impossible? Would have the Philippines become FDI-friendly then ABiaS-CBN wouldn't need the government franchise in the first place. Fast Internet speed for Filipinos would mean that they could watch almost all of ABiaS-CBN's content at any time without relying on the government franchise. They would be able to watch TV Patrol live on the platforms mentioned by Yugotech. Instead, they kept choosing to go against badly needed reforms. In return, they have shot themselves on the foot way too many times. Years of the duopoly hasn't done much to improve the overall speed and price of Internet in the Philippines. They want faster Internet yet they don't want to open up the economy. They probably were too dumb not to see how digital media is taking over or that they want to keep Filipinos primitive so they can stay in power. I can't say which is which.

Reading comprehension test anyone? If you consider the REAL reasons behind ABiaS-CBN's "closure" - that is it's shut down from the AIRWAVES then read the notice above from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). ABiaS-CBN was given TEN DAYS to respond or to give a good reason. Where was ABiaS-CBN during that time? You may also consider that NTC only took it off the airwaves. Is the shutdown even final? Please read the FINAL SENTENCE which says, "After receipt of ABS-CBN's response, the NTC shall SCHEDULE the case for hearing at the earliest time after the Enhanced Community Quarantine is lifted by the government." What does it mean NTC is going to SCHEDULE the case for a hearing regarding ABiaS-CBN's government franchise? Did the NTC notice say ABiaS-CBN must SHUT DOWN like it happened during the Marcos Years? The issue here is ABIaS-CBN is not even shut down. Its supporters need to answer why are they still able to watch ANC News, why is ABiaS-CBN's Youtube still on, and more importantly do they know the difference between the government franchise and ABiaS-CBN's rights to operate even WITHOUT IT? The real revocation of their right to free airing is NOT an attack on press freedom. Rather, it was their procrastination that caused them that privilege. GMA-7 applied for it long before so why didn't ABiaS-CBN? They have lost their privilege (which is granted with meeting certain conditions) for free airing. However, they still have the right to operate DIGITALLY and still express their views. Also, they can still put their sh*tty teleseryes on other platforms. That means Carlito Dalisay can still continue his stupid show on Netflix or wherever they want to put it.

Right now, ABiaS-CBN and its supporters need to think outside their mahiwagang (shiny) black box. Yup, I'm talking about how they can survive BEYOND the government franchise' free frequency. I guess they've been pampered for too long by the government franchise provision of FREE airing. Digital media is fastly taking over. Did ABiaS-CBN think of how they could migrate to digital media and improve their shows? Maybe, they thought they would receive support from the people forever. Unfortunately, their call for one million signatures on Change.org is a failure. They have their celebrities to think about. They have their employees to think about. They could've slowly migrated to the digital age so they don't depend too much on government franchise. Instead, they chose to be stubborn especially about badly-needed reforms that could've benefitted them. It's really a huge failure of mind how self-interest tends to close the mind towards new ideas, right?
