ABiaS-CBN Proves Itself Self-Contradictory Regarding Foreign Ownership While Upholding The Defective 1987 Constitution

As ABiaS-CBN shutdown may come to pass (and I'm still pretty mixed about it) - it looks like that the "best constitution in the world " (that is according to Hilarious Davide) is key to getting rid of it. So, it turns out that like CRAppler, ABiaS-CBN has been guilty of breaking the negative list rule.

Here's an excerpt from Rigoberto Tiglao's article "ABS-CBN tramples on the Constitution: 22% owned mainly by US and Singapore firms" from the Manila Times that should reveal how the double-standard is indeed applied by the oligarchy;

SOME 22 percent of the shares of media conglomerate ABS-CBN Corp., now worth at least P3.5 billion, are owned by foreign companies, mainly the Los Angeles-based, privately-owned The Capital Group, one of the world’s largest investment management firms.

Together with several other foreign firms, including the United Kingdom’s Prudential Plc (through its Singapore firm), the United States company received P1.3 billion in income out of ABS-CBN’s profits from 2015 to last year, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reports show.

This is a blatant violation of Section 11, Article XVI of our Constitution: “The ownership and management of mass media shall be limited to citizens of the Philippines, or to corporations, cooperatives or associations, wholly-owned and managed by such citizens.”

So it turns out to be that ABiaS-CBN has apparently violated the rules that the Cory Constitution aka the 1987 Constitution had set about media ownership. It's ironic that ABiaS-CBN is against constitutional reform (which was once coined as charter change) presumably to protect its own interests yet they apparently and secretly violated Section 11, Article XVI of the 1987 Constitution at the same time. How long they secretly had foreign ownership is something I can't be certain but they wouldn't be in trouble IF the article they violated didn't exist.

This is the biggest dilemma of ABiaS-CBN. They're against constitutional reform but they have secretly violated that provision presumably for more money. It's just like communists themselves. You can see many examples of communists who hate capitalism but love its products. If they hate capitalism then why get caught using a MAC laptop or be on American-made social media? The irony is also that communist propaganda is spread through capitalist-made devices. Worse, economic protectionism and the "calls for nationalism" are further spread with the use of IMPORTED DEVICES. The whole "nationalism" agenda is a sham as they only care more about power. I don't think the activist organizers care about contradicting themselves drinking at a coffee shop or eating at Kentucky at the day's end - it's all about CONVENIENCE.

Would have there been NO NEGATIVE LIST or such provisions about mass media - I don't think ABiaS-CBN would be in that much trouble. They contradicted themselves by going against economic constitutional reform while they actually violated it. I wonder how do they bother to explain themselves? If anything, I would say the shutdown of ABiaS-CBN should probably the last resolve for it. ABiaS-CBN should STOP its bigotry towards the badly-needed constitutional reform. If the whole negative list is removed - they can continue having as many foreign owners as they want. Unfortunately, the very constitution that was more pro-Yellow than pro-Filipino ended up shooting them. Did they even think that they are exempted from following rules huh?

This is why I'm for SYSTEM CHANGE. ABiaS-CBN, Inquirer, and CRappler would probably be MORE RESPONSIBLE if there were foreigners competing against them. But if they still want to say no to that then they can consider getting shut down ACCORDING to the current laws, right?
