A lot of jeepneys run today and have become metal death traps for this reason - they're now very old pieces of machinery. The proposal has been to modernize them. If a piece of machinery is too old then can you still rehabilitate, repair, and upgrade them? It's just like adding new components to obsolete machinery - it will no longer be compatible. I still laugh whenever I listen to the Soviet Anthem sung in English. The whole song bragged about how the Soviet Union would live through the ages which it DIDN'T. It's probably an overstatement to call the Philippines as a supposedly free and democratic country. Some say that democracy was restored in 1986 and supposedly "died" on September 21, 2017 . Before we even call a democracy a democracy - we need to understand what it means. If you've at least taken your basic Civics and Culture classes - you may notice that the term democracy is a government of the PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE, and for the PEOPLE. It's not a government that's only for the majority, by the majority, and of the majority. A real democracy caters to both majorities and minorities. The majority wins but they shouldn't take all. Minorities are given their right to be heard and criticize the majority. But that doesn't seem to be the case of the Philippines. Communism itself is built on the premise of socialism. Socialism is defined by Investopedia as a populist economic system that bases its economic and political decisions on production and distribution. A purely socialist system would have all legal production and distribution dictated made by the government and citizens rely on the state for their basic needs. On the other hand, capitalism is defined by Investopedia as an economic system where private individuals or businesses own capital goods.
