Last year, it was a COVID-19-ridden Christmas. Did Christmas really temporarily stop COVID-19? It didn't. Instead, the "most wonderful time of the year" was ruined by COVID-19. Yet, some Filipinos still insist in their stupidity such as the "wonderful world" of last minute Christmas shopping. Since it's the beginning of the "-ber" months - it's very easy to think of Christmas is on the air. However, as long as there's COVID-19 and there's NO HERD IMMUNITY YET - don't celebrate just yet. In fact, some people will NOT be able to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones as hospitals are getting stuffed. Yet, some people don't want to get vaccinated or others still want to rally believing that the rallies (daw) didn't lead to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the United States of America (USA). Well, isn't it that the USA TOPPED COVID-19 infections WORLDWIDE? Now, it's time to think of how the United Kingdom (UK) did the right thing to CANCEL Christmas.
The other day, I decided to write a post where the pasaways are probably insisting in the "success" of the Swedish model. A certain troll I refuse to feed is now even saying that it's a success and that "vaccines kill" even when evidence points out unvaccinated people are the ones getting it worse. I really should just IGNORE that guy and spam his comments. Now, I decided to write this post because I feel many Filipinos are bound to lose focus on the fight against COVID-19 because it's Christmas. I must admit but a lot of Filipinos tend to follow the stupidity of Tomas Mascardo. Mascardo decided to abandon his platoon in the time of crisis to attend a town fiesta. Such stupidity may cause COVID-19 to skyrocket this Christmas. It should also be comparable to The Masque of the Red Death when the king had a feast in the middle of the Red Plague that was worse than COVID-19.
If the UK canceled Christmas then I believe the Philippines needs to do so, too. I'm not saying families can't put Christmas decorations on their home. However, mass gatherings still need to be suspended as even young people can get COVID-19 and land in the hospital. Swedish success? I'm no investigative journalist or biologist but Rigoberto Tiglao's expose on it really makes a lot of sense. Saying masks and faceshields don't help stop the spread? Please, tell that to the doctors who wear masks and facehsields (as well as other protective equipment) to protect themselves from various pathogens - not just COVID-19. Yet for some - they should all remove their masks, their faceshields, and refuse vaccination all in the name of freedom, right?
The COVID-19 pandemic certainly hit Hilarious Davide on the face. One thing that's needed to be asked on who would you listen to between Davide or the great late John Gokongwei? Better yet, who really brought a real great nation between the framers of the 1987 "best constitution" against the framers of the Singaporean constitution? The late Lee Kuan Yew decided it was time to invite the multinational corporations to invest in Singapore. Recently, Lee Hsien Loong is showing leadership that's way better than the late Noynoy Aquino, President Rodrigo R. Duterte, and Vice President Leni Loud Robredo combined. In fact, he was prime minister when Noynoy and Duterte were presidents. I wonder what Davide has to say right now that the Philippines is LAGGING BEHIND with COVID-19 reliefs? COVID-19 first? Please, we need to change the lousy system NOW if we expect COVID-19 cases to be lessened and the debts to be paid.
It's not the time to sit down, relax, and to celebrate. Until now, Singapore hasn't lifted every necessary restriction. The result of Singapore's restrictions has achieved an 80% vaccinated population. What makes the leadership of Lee Hsien Loong better than Duterte and Leni Loud? It's not just because he's a great leader - he has a SYSTEM that makes him and his predecessors a great leader. Can you imagine if Duterte and Leni Loud were faced off in the weekly question hour? Can you imagine if Francisco Duque were made to report his achievements every week to a shadow health minister? Singapore's better transparency and governance made the achievements better. Singapore's refusal to sit down and relax as a country helped achieve its vaccination rate. However, Filipinos are stuck becaue of the LOUSY SYSTEM that some people continue to defend as the "best constitution in the world". Can they really tell Singapore now that the Philippines has the best constitution in the world?
This is an ongoing battle to achieve herd immunity. Vaccinations are really needed to help reduce the chances of COVID-19 serious cases. There's no time to get excited for Christmas. People should do their part to cooperate by NOT breaking simple health protocol. Hospitals can be jam-packed soon enough when the citizens decide to relax from the battle. The citizens need to be vigilant so the health workers won't get an overload and get more time to rest. People need to get vaccinated ASAP. Those who don't want to get vaccinated may consider not admitting themselves to the hospital if they get COVID-19. Vaccinated people should follow the doctor's guidelines since they can still be asymptomatic and defeating the new variants is a real concern. Also, it's time to stop feeding the trolls by DELETING their comments instead of entertaining them. That's why I MODERATE comments - I don't what those stupid people who think they're so smart to keep having their ego fed.
This is a continuing battle. Filipinos can't afford to lose this one. It's time to think about replacing the old system with a new one to beat COVID-19. Don't expect to beat COVID-19 first with the old system before replacing it. Instead, we need to fight for constitutional reform to beat COVID-19.
