So 'Crash Landing on You' Trended As NUMBER ONE On Netflix Philippines Until Today?

Let's face it that the digital age is ON, right? Though I'm not agreeable with some stuff shown on Netflix (such as The First Temptation) - I was thinking fo how the digital age is beating teleserye crap again by miles. Now, it's time to consider one K-Drama that I found out became number one in the Philippines while I was watching some older stuff a few years back. This K-Drama is called Crash Landing on You which the first episode truly defined it. A South Korean heiress crash lands on a North Korean soldier resulting in a lighthearted comedy that kept a lot of Filipinos up and awake. Awake for what reason? Then when I check Netflix - it's currently the top choice of Filipino viewers.

I just read a rather superficial article from Rappler which focuses more on the kilig moments from the love team than the truth about North Korea. Just reading the Rappler article hasn't been very easy. Granted, didn't they also have COMMUNIST writer Toady Casino also write for them? I wonder do the people at Rappler even know why North Korea ended up that way? The article doesn't really talk much about that. I bet Casino will blame free markets for North Korea's condition even when facts say otherwise. Hmmm... shouldn't be ironic Rappler would let a review on Crash Landing on You float up? I'm just waiting for Casino to try and prove free markets made North Korea poor and protectionism made South Korea rich.

South Korea may be presidential-unitary but it wins over the Philippines because of ECONOMIC LIBERALIZATION. Watching the first two episodes of Crash Landing on You will give you a glimpse of North Korea's horrid living conditions. Why is there brownout in North Korea really that bad in the series? I'd think it's all because of STATE-OWNED utilities. Why was brownout so bad during the Marcos years and the Cory years? One can consider the monopoly of utilities by cronies led to frequent brownouts. How can a few power companies (whether state-controlled or oligarch-controlled) ever fill in the demand of people needing electricity? It doesn't take an economist to understand that the prices are high when supply is LOW and demand is HIGH. Yet, you have people who still fear foreign investment because of what Filipino communists keep telling them.

North Korea's anti-capitalist society (while ironically those in power ENJOY its benefits) was shown. A woman was berated for simply buying a talking rice cooker from South Korea. Another house has somebody do the treadmill just to get electricity. You can really see how miserable North Korea gets because of ECONOMIC PROTECTIONISM. If anybody gets the blessing from the protectionist policy - it's really those in power! Just think why is Emperor Kim Jung Un SO FAT while the rest of North Korea starves? Why was Mao Zedong so fat while the rest of China starved under his regime? It's because communism can never work. Those in power know it doesn't work for the crowd but it certainly works for them. They're just like financial scammers who promise you high returns in such a short amount of time but run away with your money.

Sometimes, it takes truth told in the form of fiction to get a point, right? Just think ancient societies often told stories to illustrate a point. You have short stories in the form of fables and parables. You have novelists who wrote fiction to address reality. You may consider Jose Rizal's two novels Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not) and El Filibusterismo (The Filibuster or Rebel) were fictional novels that told a lot of truth. That's why Rizal himself ended up dead for revealing truths Filipinos needed to hear during the Spanish occupation. I can't be sure what's the motive behind writing Crash Landing on You may be no different. Maybe, more Filipinos are now seeing the myth behind progressing through protectionism because it doesn't work. The show ended a week before EDSA 2020. Maybe, more Filipinos are getting tired of activist groups' nonsense after watching Crash Landing on You, huh?

  1. Only a few Philippine TV shows and movies are worthy of international recognition. It's a fact.
