Yellows May Have No One But THEMSELVES To Blame As To Why #EDSAIsDead

I remembered I wrote a joke article where I jokingly said that Philippine democracy truly died last September 21, 2017. I just thought that EDSA itself is a controversial topic. Last 2016 - EDSA turned 30 and the performance has been anything but spectacular. You can now consider the dying trend that's Ninoy Aquino Day. Now, let's consider why Yellows have no one but THEMSELVES to blame as to why #EDSAIsDead in more than one level. Since there's already talks about #OustDuterte (and I wonder if it will succeed this time) - I decided to write this post as a belated birthday present to the Dilawan's "chosen one" Noynoy Aquino.

EDSA was a significant turning point in events. I don't even want to call the Marcos Years as the Golden Years. How can it be the golden years of the Philippines when the country was heavily buried in DEBT and economic protectionism? It's stupid to criticize the Marcos Years while you support the 60-40 provisions of the 1987 Constitution. Overthrowing a dictator will do no good if you continue faulty provisions by the said person. What's the use of overthrowing the dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. from his rule if you still support economic protectionism which contributed to inflation and inability to pay national debt?

First, one can consider that EDSA is NOT exclusive to Yellows. The Yellows would have not succeeded in overthrowing Marcos if it wasn't for non-Yellows too. Some research would tell you that President Rodrigo R. Duterte's late mother Soledad Duterte was also part of the EDSA Revolution. Years later, we would see that the Yellows feel entitled to the EDSA exclusivity. Do you remember the 2016 incident when Jim Paredes looked for a fight with the Duterte Youth? Okay, I may no longer be a Diehard Duterte Supporter BUT what he did was just wrong. He's an old man picking fights with younger ones. He even dared to lie that he was bullied and trolled but LOOK WHO IS TALKING. That kind of attitude by the Yellows (and them defending Paredes) slowly led to EDSA spirit really dying.

Second, you have to think of the post-EDSA Years. Just where is the promise for progress after the Marcos Years ran the Philippine dry? They could have really started making REAL CHANGES. Instead, they decided to draft the 1987 Constitution which they claim represents the whole Filipino people. Rather than correct the mistakes of the Marcos Years - they retained some of them. They ended up continuing the "Filipino First" policy by Carlos P. Garcia which was the basis for the protectionism under Marcos. Instead, the Philippines became even more overly dependent on Overseas Filipino Workers than it was during the Marcos Years. That's why former president Fidel V. Ramos and later Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo called for a shift to economic and political reforms. Ramos' plans to turn the Philippines into a tiger economy FAILED because Yellow fearmongering was very prevalent. Hmmm... maybe that's why they don't want to allow foreign telcos to invest so they can continue their grip on power?

Third, the Yellows simply refused to make necessary adjustments after they became the minority party. It's amazing how the Yellows would rather derail than correct the government. It's one thing to CONSTRUCTIVELY criticize. It's another to use criticism to destroy the incumbent government. #OtsoDiretso could've gone to Marawi not just to oversee progress but to also offer alternatives to rebuilding it. Instead, they decided to just criticize without giving badly needed feedback. Their theatrics daring President Duterte to ride his jetski to China was no less childish than people who demanded Noynoy to get ran over by a train. Their desire to occupy the majority seats rather than correct those in the majority seats (as minorities should do) led to their derailing. Also, their desire to still uphold the faulty 1987 Constitution further contributed to justifying their theatrics. Would have they been in a parliamentary system - the Yellows would be forced not just to oppose but to give alternatives. The real problem is not their criticism of President Duterte - it's their failure to give him better alternatives.

Fourth and last, EDSA is getting very old really fast. What's the use of having more EDSAs if every other EDSA just brings a government no better than the last? It's because the system itself is defective. The Yellows refused to realize that their SYSTEM is indeed faulty. You can consider that a lot of mistakes President Duterte is doing now is hardly opposed as much as their beloved Noynoy. It's just the quality of the people they say? Well, they better account as to why Bum Aquino and Mar Roxas have become clowns when they started out pretty fine? Bum himself was once a well-admired businessman but now he's just a laughingstock after he became a legislator. Mar was once a promising DTI secretary but you can consider his mental decay. A bad system usually ruins a good person first before a good person can ruin a good system, get it?
