Do Filipinos Ever Bother To Ask Why More Filipinos Desire To Work Abroad And Are Working Abroad?

It's March and the very thing that comes into the head of many is graduation month though some schools will have theirs in April or May, right? This has me going back to my high school days where I actually desired to take a computer course even when I'm not smart enough for that course because of the money it could potentially bring. Others desired to take nursing and physical therapy so they can easily go abroad. This had me wondering before why the Philippines couldn't become a rich country. Some say the typical "we can't do anything about it" which they always do.

So there's a tendency to prepare children to become Overseas Filipino Workers. In the 90s, I remembered how they were called the new heroes. But the question is are they necessarily the bagong bayani as they are taught in schools to be as? Are they necessarily proof that Filipinos are in fact "conquering the world" when in fact they aren't? Do we even forget that OFW means Overseas Filipino Workers NOT Overseas Filipino Warriors? Now, this should be an eye opener to why Filipinos should support the idea of removing excessive restrictions to Foreign Direct Investments.

Why do many want to work abroad? It's because the salary is better there abroad. The other issue is that there's hardly any high paying jobs or even available jobs in the Philippines. The real problem that they don't see is that there are too few Filipino-owned businesses and too many Filipinos who are in need of jobs. The solution that ends up in the minds of parents is to send their children abroad to be OFWs so that they can escape poverty. Unfortunately, many OFW families are still stuck in poverty even with all their huge salaries abroad. It's because they don't even know how to budget the money for their needs and would rather focus on their wants.

Why are the more feasible job opportunities abroad with better salary rates where there are very few in the Philippines? It's because these countries are rich in investors both local and foreign alike. Foreign direct investors may not be a panacea or cure-all for the economy but they are part of bringing in cash for the economy. If there's so little supply of something for that season (because it's a non-logging season) then don't you think importing something in the meantime is part of the solution to fill the supply/demand gap? Foreign investors don't only provide jobs but they also provide taxable income for the government. When a government is richer and there are more companies to provide jobs then raising salaries from PHP 350.00 a day to PHP 350.00 an hour if there are many businesses booming. But how can businesses boom as long as there's unreasonable and excessive restrictions to FDI?

If you want people to have much fewer people desiring to work abroad and to have much less people working abroad then the solution is economic liberalization. FDIs are investors and not invaders. Stop believing the naysayers from Filipino leftist groups who make FDIs invaders. All they care about is their hold of power and not the Filipino people!
