Scare Tactics Towards Constitutional Reform Kept The Philippines Backwards Since The 90s

A scare tactic is labeled as, "a strategy intended to manipulate public opinion about a particular issue by arousing fear or alarm". Since it's Halloween for the heck of it -- I decided to write a "scary post" in relation to the walking dead Liberal Party. After the fall of the Marcos Regime -- it's easy to see where the oligarchy fell into. The oligarchy was yanked out of the hands of the Marcoses and it fell into the Aquinos. It was almost like a Xenomorph defeating a Predator from the Aliens vs. Predator franchise, right?

With ABiaS-CBN back at the control to its rightful owners -- the grateful Lopezes indeed started playing partisan politics and doing sensationalist reports such as unverified rumors of aswangs and recently -- the ghosts of EJK victims. If they can't verify their reports of the supernatural or just anything then why report it as facts? That's unprofessional journalism! But as if having ABiaS-CBN (and in extension its News Network) wasn't enough -- you can think of how other Yellow media effectively aired itself. You have CRappler (which should be questioned for joining forces with Filipino commies) and the Philippine Daily Non-Inquirer. Sure, returning ABiaS-CBN to the Lopezes was the right thing to do but partisan politics is another issue.

The 90s were a sitting ground. Former president Fidel V. Ramos himself was already advocating for constitutional reform. No, the first one wasn't Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo but it was him. I guess that's why Ramos wanted the boring yet competent Jose De Venecia to be the next president and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to be the vice president. I remembered how I feared charter change all because we were told that the Marcos Years weren't the golden years -- which I still agree! What's not emphasized though is the truth that the problem wasn't Marcos ruling for two decades as president but the quality of rule. Lee Kuan Yew ruled for a very long time in Singapore as its prime minister, Mahathir Bin Mohamad ruled Malaysia for a long time as its prime minister during the 90s (and he's back now as the world's oldest prime minister) but look at the quality of their rule. The whole scare was that both Ramos and Gloria wanted to shift to parliamentary so they can rule forever -- never mind Ramos was already old that time and that the parliamentary system has more direct scrutiny of the prime minister than the presidential has towards the president!

The fight for economic reforms such as removing economic protectionism was not spared from scare tactics either. So what scare tactics are done by the Yellows and more importantly Reds (such as Bayan/Bayad Muna, Gagabriela and Migrante errr Migraine International) like Toady Casino and Neri Colmenares? It's the fear that allowing foreign investors to invest in the Philippines beyond 60/40 will cause the Philippines to lose its sovereignty. The other lie is that only foreign investors will get rich and the Philippines will be left impoverished in the process. However, it's the lack of businesses to sustain the supply/demand gap in the Philippines that has caused the Philippines to be impoverished. Do you think protecting the cottage industries from foreign competition will ever help? The lack of the gap between businesses has caused cottage industries to be subdued by the oligarchy. It has given them less chances to grow. How can the cottage industries grow if the only services that they can avail of to help them in their businesses belong to the oligarchy? In short, protectionism is just protecting the oligarchy and not the small and medium sized businesses.

The idea that federalism will give rise to warlords and political dynasties is unfounded. I wonder did the Monsod couple consider reading a dictionary again or are they going senile (since they're confusing it with feudalism) in spite of their prestigious education? I may still have some questions regarding federalism though I think a more decentralized government than help the Philippines. The fear that federalism will also break up the Philippines is stupid. How does federalism work? It's one constitution governing all the states under that one nation like it is in the U.S.A. and not several constitutions under one central constitution. It's about further decentralizing the local government unit so it doesn't get too reliant on the capital. Unfortunately, fear-mongering has now even confused federalism with feudalism or they fail to see how federalism works in countries like Malaysia and the United States.

However, these scare tactics are getting old for one reason -- nobody can ever truly have a monopoly of the digital age! The oligarchy networks now have to compete with Netflix and i-Flix. ABiaS-CBN will have to compete with PLDT's Cignal. You can think of how the digital age isn't limited to the control of just someone. The 90s were a low tech, simpler era so people can be easily manipulated due to the monopoly of networks. Now ABiaS-CBN has to really face the facts -- their scare mongering and Yellow censorship will backfire on their faces. Besides, it's safe to say that the Liberal Party is already a zombie -- it's lost its relevance in this day and age! They can't have a monopoly of the digital age because it's for everyone!
