Do you remember the hype that the yellows have when it comes to the Marcos Years? While I don't want to deny that some people were indeed martial law victims but it's time to consider the whole Aquino vs. Marcos rhetoric and why it's just dumb -- it's not just because both Mariano Marcos (father of Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.) and Benigno Aquino Sr. were collaborators of Imperial Japan but also because of the present. One can't deny the extreme censorship during the Marcos years yet one can't deny the biased, one-sided behavior of the Yellow media or which is called Yellow censorship.
In short, it's all about monopolizing the media at the hands of the Yellows whenever, wherever such as the "fact checking" done by Vera Files and Rappler with Facebook -- where it's selective justice. So why are dummy accounts by the Dilawans still stay while dummy accounts that were merely created to protect one's privacy (some people hate the spotlight) are deleted for sharing information not in favor of the Yellows? They can rant all they want about the extreme censorship during the Marcos years (and those who were there during the martial law years can testify towards that) yet they are being just as one sided. Let the Yellows sit down in power and you will soon have more or less the same kind of media martial law, right?
If we have the Marcos regime approved media then there's the Yellow approved media. The whole Yellow censorship itself is very subtle. Maybe, we can say Marcos was at least more direct. But how did the Yellow censorship do it? The 1987 Constitution has the negative list where mass media must be 100% Filipino owned (Yet Rappler broke this rule for several years!) -- which in turn has given much power to the Filipino oligarch media outlets. This rule has allowed it that the government can subtly control the media with what it wants to do -- such as allow networks to feed whatever idiotic Filipino television drama is there to further numb the mind of the Filipino. What's the use of criticizing Marcos' extreme censorship if the Yellows are also doing the same thing one way or another, right?
It reminded me of the time that the proposal to remove the rights of Filipinos to bring media from abroad was nearly passed as a law. Although it's already 2018 but it's one thing that Filipinos shouldn't ignore just like the lessons to be learned from both the Marcos and the Noynoying Years. Fortunately, Noynoy Aquino didn't sign that law into action but imagine what if they did? Can you imagine if Filipinos were forced to watch all the same idiotic media? If that law were passed then it would be the Yellow censorship in action. In short, you can't watch anything else except what's approved by the Yellow media.
Would have both Marbobo Roxas and Leni Loud Robredo sat in the Malacanang today then the censorship can even get worse than when it started. You can imagine how anything that goes against the Yellows would be removed from whatever outlets they can. The idiotic libel clause of the cybercrime law will be in action but only when it suits their needs. Anybody who would dare to criticize them may end up finding themselves from paying hefty fines to spending jail time. Media democracy would be under the Yellow dictatorship. Soon enough, you may even find everything available even on Internet TV will just be Yellow approved media -- as long as you are in the Philippines. In short, they will make sure Filipinos will only conform to the Yellow Spectrum by dominating the Philippine branches of various media outlets to make sure they stay in power as long as they could.
Maybe, one can say that they are worse. Maybe one can say that Marcos Sr. was at least more obvious about his censorship. But the Yellows? Well, they were claiming to fight for freedom and democracy yet they have shown themselves to be no better. Besides, one can say that they have stooped lower than Marcos Sr. with their unfair treatment of Bongbong Marcos just because he's the son of Marcos Sr. -- which shows that the Yellows are in fact no better and if not possibly worse.
