I know House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez may not be the best person around but let's focus on the argument on what he said about Cheato Gascon getting his budget from criminals. It's really so stupid how many Filipinos tend to attack the person instead of the argument. It's like how often they focus to attack Leila Dilemma's questionable affair with Ronnie Dayan instead of the stupidity of her accusations or the other side of the fence chooses to attack House Speaker Alvarez's infidelities. Let's focus on the argument shall we? Here's the reality that I could agree with House Speaker Alvarez and I don't need to be a political analyst or lawyer to agree.
Why should Gascon get his budget from criminals instead of government fundings? All Gascon does is defend wealthy criminals who are paying the right price. Big time drug dealers get arrested and he yells. Drug offenders get arrested and he yells. As a lawyer, shouldn't he be focused on the one truth of criminal law that the rights of law abiding citizens come first over criminals? While criminals do have rights not to be punished beyond their offense or to the right of due process but what Gascon is doing is promote a culture of impunity. In short, if he wants more money then why not get budget from all the criminals he protects?
If any agency deserves to get a budget increase it should be the Public Attorney's Office. After all, who's doing the job that Gascon should have been doing if not Atty. Persida Rueda V. Acosta? I even think that maybe she should be put as the new chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights in the place of Gascon. If not Acosta, anybody from PAO who has integrity can be assigned to that position while Atty. Acosta stays in PAO. Atty. Acosta can get an increase in budget especially with handling the cases that CHR fails to handle. That is the budget meant for CHR's investigation will be allocated for PAO. You could consider how PAO's work has been doubled no thanks to Gascon's stupidity. So PAO should be the one getting the budget instead of CHR for that reason.
