GMA-7's "Not-So-Shining Inheritance" Is An Inheritance Best Uninherited

I watched the Korean version of Shining Inheritance (or Brilliant Legacy) on GMA-7 -- all before seeing the Korean dubs. I wasn't surprised at the turn of events that this drama is GOING ON and it's episode 60+. Like WUT? The original drama only had 28 episodes worth 1 hour and 10 minutes (at most) on Korean time. GMA-7 managed to air more episodes by cutting down screen time to suit the weekday schedule. I decided to check it out and my goodness -- I'd choose to rewatch American localizations of Japanese shows over the GARBAGE that GMA-7 created!

That's why I titled it to Not-So-Shining Inheritance. Maybe, even call it Dull Inheritance. I'll talk more about the SCRIPT than the cast. I can't truly critique acting except based on my personal preferences. I can see Coney Reyes acting as a powerful head of a big-time company. I can see the twin siblings (although the original didn't write them as such) as obnoxious brats. Half-breed Michael Sager can still make Euan just as obnoxious to developed like actor Lee Seung Gi. However, I could really talk about the real grating issue as I mentioned -- THE REALLY BAD PACING!

The pacing goes from bad to worse. One of the many reasons why K-Drama wins over teleseryes is the PACING. I dropped Full House because of the horrendous pacing. I didn't even start watching Ang Probinsyano because of the EXPECTED PACING. As expected, Dull Inheritance has really bad pacing. The K-Drama version has had better pacing. Episode 1 begins with this and ends with that. No plot is really overstretched to ridiculous volumes. Episodes 12-13 drop the bomb that Jang Sak Ja (I think she was also renamed Aurea in the GMA dub) decides to give everything to Yna (Go Eun Seung) -- a decision she doesn't take lightly. However, GMA-7's version stretches everything to ridiculous lengths! The Korean version presents what we need to know. GMA-7's version puts TOO MANY USELESS FILLLERS.

I wonder if should criticize making the stepmother too evil? The stepmother just shows up to be overly dramatic. Euan's sister Joanna and Inna's stepsister Aimee tend to be potrayed as one-dimensional money grabbers. I might want to add that there are times I feel Euan's development is WAY TOO SLOW. Come on, people saw how Hwan in Shining Inheritance shows us enough of his obnoxious attitude to how he slowly develops! Here? I feel Euan's development is either slowed down on purpose (for probable laughs) OR pacing is just THAT POOR. There are even scenes that seem to be written just For the Evulz. Lately, I even feel Aurea being fed a hallucinating drug or Nono getting locked up in a cage -- are probably just for poorly done shock value. Come on, aren't there proofreaders who can point things out? It's easy for me to do poorly done shock value SINCE I'M NO PROFESSIONAL WRITER. However, what's the excuse that GMA-7 has for the poor shock value?

Eye candy is often misplaced at times. Michael may look better than Seung Gi. However, Euan's flaw may point out what's wrong with the drama. I'm kinda smitten by Kate Valdes BUT how long will it last? Euan is a good-looking guy with a bad attitude with bad character development. Hwan starts out as a condescending character BUT his development is done so well. Han Hyo Joo isn't pretty to me (but I found her pretty at first) BUT I'd take her any day compared to Kate. I'd say that there are times Euan's tantrums are probably just written in for the sake of a tantrum.

Overall, it's best not to even watch it. It's totally horrendous. It's one inheritance I'm willing to SELL OFF BURN DOWN TO THE GROUND. Nobody and I mean NOBODY should ever bother to inherit this MESS OF A SHOW!
