Buntis Faib Legacy's Love Triangle Doesn't Get How Jetman Did It

Anybody who at least grew up watching Voltes V and Jetman may notice the similarities between Gai Yuki and Ippei Mine (Mark Gordon in the dub). If you're familiar with Gatchaman then you'd notice that Gai himself is pretty much based on Joe Asakura. Joe's character got developed into the rebel types in some of the Super Robot Anime series by Toei. Maybe, some may notice that Ippei, Juzo Naniwa (Jason in the dub), and Isamu Kurogane (Lance in Lion Voltron) are all templates for Gai. Also, Voltes V was aired on GMA-7 so what's up with Suzette Doctolero anyway? It's one thing for fan fic writers like myself ot screw up. It's another thing when PROFESSIONALS screw up in that area. I decided to check out more of Buntis Faib Legacy and the decay has gotten bad.

It's no secret that I've been shipping Ippei and Megumi (Jamie) in the original Voltes V Anime. I did accept the whole Hyoma Aoi (Glenn) and Chizuru Nanbara (Stephanie) official coupling in Combattler V. The recent episode of Buntis Faib starts revealing something stupid. I did mention how SLOW the pacing has been. Any attempt to insert Jetman's love triangle has been rather stupid. If there was the right pacing then it'd work out. Instead, all the beating around the bush just hurt whatever attemps Suzette Doctolero had in putting Toshiki Inoue's type of writing into the story.

I think it's too out of the blue for Jamie to just accept Mark because Steve is a duwag or coward. Mark overhears the conversation that Jamie is too obsessed with Steve. Okay, like WUT? Sure, Jetman did play it out that Kaori fell for Ryu's heroism. Ryu was still unable to move away from his supposedly dead girlfriend Rie. I think Steve's just being an a**hole in here - even a bigger a**hole than Mark who's supposedly a template for Gai in Jetman. In the Anime, Ippei himself was the team rebel and frequently fought with Steve. Well, Steve was the all-around decent guy and the red ranger. I don't think Kenichi (Steve) would've done something like what Steve did in the earlier episodes. Steve taking pictures of Jamie while dating Eva (who's yet to receive her comeuppance in a Love Makes You Evil plot) was just plain stupid. Sure, Eva's pretty crazy but Steve should be blamed too.

Jetman had moments that slowly established Gai and Kaori Rokumeikan as a couple. Heck, I really hated it when Gai and Kaori broke up and when Ryu failed to rescue his girlfriend Rie. The Three Demon Gods arc showed an establishing moment that made Kaori accept Gai. Gai offered his blood to save Kaori. Later, Gai and Kaori become a couple and have their establishing moments. Here? What in the world was Doctolero thinking of just, "Okay Mark, I'll date you because Steve is a duwag." Like WUT? I even laughed at what Dryed Mangoez said that Steve and Jamie do deserve each other. In Jetman, Kaori ends up accepting Gai for better reasons. Kaori did learn a heavy lesson when she tried to court Ryu with a jazz concert ticket.

I felt there was more depth that Inoue wrote in the relationship of Gai and Kaori than Doctolero did with Mark and Jamie. I felt that Jamie should've been allowed to slowly forget Steve and accept Mark. Maybe, have Mark finally tell General Oscar Robinson that he's dating his daughter. Maybe, have a scene where Jamie brings out the best in Mark. Instead, it's really a total mess because of the weeknight format AND the really slow pacing.
