I never thought I'd be watching more of that idiotic Buntis Faib Legacy. I'd like to say that people should be thankful that I wasn't hired to write the show or it might've gotten worse with slapstick humor and idiotic lust sh*t plots. The show is apparently almost over and it's scheduled for 80 episodes. Rewatching some of the Voltes V episodes used can make one realize the big issue - IT'S SLOWING THINGS DOWN AT VERY PAINFUL LEVELS! There's the problem of the SLOW PACING that's not making the Steve/Mark/Jamie love triangle work at all! Maybe, I can keep whining at how Eva's not even arrested YET. Heck, General Robinson wanted to find out WHO attempted to murder his daughter. Sadly, General Robinson died all too soon!
I confess that I wish that the fake Dr. Ned Armstrong arc in the original Voltes V was cut too short. It happened after I did rewatch Golion with the near-finale episodes when the Galra saboteur saint infiltrated the camp. I guess Toei still wasn't sure of what it wanted to do in the 1970s. After Combattler V had 54 episodes - Voltes V sadly only had 40 which as probably due to the lack of charm that the predecessor had. Strangely, both Golion and Dairugger XV had a year's run even if both didn't get popular. The "Saint" arc in Golion had a worth of two episodes to get direct to the point. What Suzette Doctolero (and the staff directing her) did was to get things again OVEREXTENDED.
What do you expect from the direction when they made us wait for an AGONIZING SEVERAL EPISODES before we saw Buntis Faib defeat its first Beast Fighter? Sure, Golion did have a four-parter and the legendary robot was formed only in Episode 4. Buntis Faib wasted too much time with overextended fillers like Eva (and she's got Love Makes You Evil) and Steve. You also have Mark and Jamie who are also shipped. Instead of seeing the mandatory combat - most of the episodes are too focused on typical teleserye stuff. GMA-7 has no excuse since it's been airing Kamen Rider series which are pretty much like telenovelas since Kamen Rider Kuuga. Kamen Rider Faiz was aired on GMA-7 back when I was in college. Why did they even end up screwing up Zaido in the first place? It's because of the WEEKNIGHT SCHEDULE that adds too many episodes.
I had no qualms about the Fake Ned killing Dr. Smith. It was a bit of a deviation from Voltes V. I was reminded of the scene when "Saint" killed Hysteria in Golion. Dr. Smith's original death was probably too hard to do in live-action. Fake Ned's murderous act within the base actually added some impact. However, I think Suzette missed the opportunity to make the Boazanians do something that bad. Why are we even running out of Beast Fighters? Many times, the Boazanians here feel more idiotic than they should be. Come on, why not launch a Beast Fighter after the Fake Ned Armstrong infiltrated? Maybe, have Prince Zardos be more competent than Prince Sincline was in Golion. After seeing many Beast Fighters getting Adapted Out - it's no surprise that four-headed Beast Fighter wasn't even included. It could've been the moment for Prince Zardos to try and crush the enemy. That's all before Dr. Larry Hook enters the base and replaces Dr. Smith.
The arrival of General Oslak is slowed down. Rewatching Voltes V episodes that introduced Oslak as a game-changing villain. Okay, the show doesn't address what's wrong with his horns. The original Anime has an Ambiguous Situation if Oslak had strangely-shaped horns, if he lost his horns in battle, or if he was a foil to Hrothgar. Hrothgar was born without horns and was later offered the ministerial position. Apparently, Oslak in the Anime was born without horns but was chosen to enforce Emperor Zambojil's will. Just remember that Zambojil was more than willing to get rid of anyone, horned or not if they were against him. Zambojil most likely ordered the horns of General Watson cut off as punishment.
The original Voltes V Anime gave Oslak a three-episode arc. The first episode was where Oslak creates his first Armored Beast Fighter and Voltes V is overwhelmed. The second episode has Oslak create another Beast Fighter. The wrapping-up part of Voltes V's upgrade was done in the third episode. Buntis Faib Legacy MERCILESSLY stretches things with more fillers that could've been cut short. Sure, I'm actually open to a Steve/Mark/Jamie love triangle. The difference was Toshiki Inoue knew when and when NOT TO let the love polygons of Jetman show up. Doctolero does like a lot of useless details huh?
We do get into more of the episodes after Buntis Faib gets the Ultra-Electromagnetic Ball. We have General Watson's narration. I wonder was it just plain bad writing to reveal the origins of both Zardos and his half-brothers from the beginning? The original Voltes V Anime didn't do it like that. Instead, we had that getting revealed midway. We did get an early revelation that Zardos was a possible heir to the throne so Zambojil wanted the lad out. I wonder why Buntis Faib Legacy skip Duke Zaki as a guest character. Voltes V had an entire episode dedicated to the narration of Watson about the past of the people. It was designed to slowly move the plot. At first, we don't know why Dr. Armstrong was in Boazania. It wasn't too surprising that Dr. Armstrong was the father of Zardos or a Boazanian. Dr. Armstrong going to Boazania because he's a Boazanian wasn't all too surprising. I think it's just plain bad sequencing.
Voltes V covered the death scene with only one episode. It was concisely done without the fluff. A lot of stuff was slowed down AGAIN. What was that scene with Oslak trying to kiss Zandra? I guess Doctolero is too fond of landian like the bed scene between Zardos and Zandra. I'm just amazed Doctolero hasn't written yet Jamie having sex with either Steve or Mark. Though, it might happen next that Steve and Jamie may probably end up having sex. I wonder how Doctolero will make Mark react. Mark may still have feelings for Jamie after all. Mark and Jamie are somewhat shipped in the Anime and there's hardly any shipping between Jamie and Steve. Steve and Jamie is purely fan-shipping while the Anime may have actually planned Mark and Jamie to be together.
I was wondering why are we having another shortage of Beast Fighters again? Isn't Voltes V supposedly fighting those giant monsters for almost every episode? The original Anime had a Beast Fighter take the form of a ring. Yes, that ring that caused Jamie to do what she did in both the Anime and Buntis Faib Legacy. There were some creative liberties where Jamie herself did some ninja stunts instead of that flight scene. General Oslak wanted to finish off General Robinson with his own two hands. I think the show Oslak look like an idiot. In the Anime, Oslak did prepare the Beast Figher and would've been a lot more ready than Buntis Faib Oslak!
So there are ten more episodes. We already have the part where Draco finds out that the Armstrong brothers are Boazanian. I even feel the part where Prince Zardos became Kuya Manuel was wasted in too many fillers. With ten more episodes, I even wonder how GMA-7 will end up wrapping Buntis Faib Legacy. Just expect me to write a really nasty review soon!
