Do You Know How Deng Xiaoping's China Economically Defeated Both The Marcos Years And Aquino Years Combined?

Happy Chinese New Year! Well, it's time for another Gong Xi Fa Cai post which I didn't think of doing this year. As much as I don't honor the Chinese government's refusal to move to a democratic state like Malaysia or Singapore but let's give the Deng Xiaoping some honors for his ECONOMIC achievements. What would be interesting is that his legacy can put both the Marcoses and the Aquinos to shame. Just think he emerged into power during the 70s during the Marcos Years and he stayed in power after the EDSA Revolution.

Deng was a person who returned from exile and took over Zhou Enlai. It was during the fateful year that China was literally bankrupt. Many Chinese were too lazy to go to work because of Mao Zedong's so-called equality system. While Deng insisted that his reforms weren't capitalistic yet it was probably all a ruse to get lazy people to listen. Deng was probably a better master of Sun Tzu's Art of War than Mao was. Mao was an expert in the Art of War militarily but didn't apply it economically. Deng himself was going to show how China which was once POORER than the Philippines would emerge to be eventually richer.

It's stupid to always blame the late Ferdinand E. Marcos for the continued downfall BEYOND the Marcos Years. What did Deng do when he was in China's seat as the new chairman of the Communist Party of China or CPC? He started to focus on market-oriented reforms to finally create what some may call as the brand new communism that defies Karl Marx and Mao. Why did China become poor under Mao? It's because China became a nation full of palamunins or freeloaders. Mao's economic policy where you get handouts whether you work or you don't made people lazy. Mao insisted on the fake promise of self-industrialization which is JUST IMPOSSIBLE. If that were true then the Great Leap Forward would have been towards progress and not towards disaster. Rather than continue to blame the much-dead Mao - Deng focused on reforms.

During the 1970s one can think of his four MODERNIZATION programs with agricultural, industrial, defense, and science sectors. He started removing Mao's 4Ps-like program (which I'd dare say most likely led China to inflation and poverty) and put the clear, "NO WORK, NO PAY!" policy. In 1979 - Deng gave China the open door policy. In 1980 - he made the special economic zones which were in no way 60-40 but rather invited more people. Although Deng didn't always allow 100% ownership - he didn't do 60-40. Instead, Deng's policy was generous with the mandatory joint venture with a flexible package where the foreign firms own more shares depending upon the agreement with the local Chinese firm. Sometimes, some firms went for 50-50 assuming that both the foreigner and the Chinese saw each other as equals. This was a big blow to the Marcos Years when economic protectionism was at full drive - a policy which was merely continued by the Aquinos into the 1987 Constitution.

The Tiananmen Square massacre was probably people who thought that they could emulate EDSA. However, the Tiananmen Square was probably full of Chinese palamunins (some as said were angry Beijingers complaining about the rich getting richer and still existing corruption, doesn't that sound like the Bayad Muna group?) during that said protest. Maybe, they wanted their handouts and Deng abolished Mao's 4Ps program. What was also noteworthy that in the early1980s - the economy started to boom but gangs returned to the cities. Just remember that economic booms are good but they can also attract criminals. What Deng did was to strengthen the anti-crime drive. Call it a war on drugs if you want. Deng knew that discipline is part of good economics. The U.S. today is not collapsing from free markets but from a lack of discipline on the part of the American people.

Just think China after Mao died was way poorer than the Philippines after Marcos was overthrown. Deng himself knew that economic policies really are important in a nation. He always had his eyes forward. What excuse would the Philippines have now for not being able to rise up beyond its current state for so long?
