I would consider that it's best to get both sides of the story between Regent Food and the strikers. The strikers can be put under bail assuming their offense is bailable. The ongoing story is really something. Mayor Vico Sotto or Mayor Vico for short should be careful with his dealings. Just reading from the Inquirer that labor and militant groups are supporting the mayor is NOT a good thing. We can also read from GMA News that Mayor Vico CANNOT force Regent Foods to drop the cases. This makes you wonder does he even know how a city or a country gains revenues?
What was the reason for the strike against Regent? If there were some abuses then shouldn't that be taken to the DOLE? Also, as much as abusive capitalists are to be axed but that doesn't make communist strikers as heroes. Right now, both Regent and the 23 workers have to face it. Mayor Vico himself shouldn't even pressure Regent to drop the case. He also better present proof that the 23 didn't cause alleged injuries. But if the strikers were sent to jail for causing injuries then isn't it in his job as mayor to help maintain peace and order? Strikes do happen for a reason. Sometimes, they happen because abuses did exist. However, they can also happen because the workers themselves are asking for the impossible such as raising salaries beyond the company's capacity.
Does he know how a city or country prospers economically? Driving away investors from your city or bullying businessmen equals lesser revenues. There's NOTHING good that will come out from siding with labor and militant groups. The drive to bring down capitalism (while ironically using capitalist devices to do so) hasn't done anything good for citizens in ANY country. It's capitalism and not government investments that produce these jobs. The very thought that Regent may move its business outside Pasig City may mean losing revenues for the city. If there will be more strikes - he must consider BOTH sides of the coin. Corrupt capitalists who only care about profit and nothing more are destined to be axed. However, siding with those leftists and having their support is tantamount to going against capitalism whether or not its participants play fair or not in the free market. Some capitalists think of having profits so they can continue to help others. So why even bother axing capitalists who make a profit and continue to use that profit to supply needs and to do charity work?
Right now, I think he needs to REALLY read some economic books OUTSIDE the Philippines. He has to consider how to make Pasig City prosperous by making it conducive to do business in it. If ever, I think he needs to stay away from the issues and let the courts settle it. He also needs to avoid those leftist groups or gaining their support AT ALL COSTS because those guys have NEVER done anything good economically and socially anyway. Those leftists do vandalism and littering which makes them no better than businessmen who dump their waste left and right. Those leftists aren't able to produce jobs either since most of their rallyists do NOTHING until there's a rally, right?
