I remembered a bit of the common sense post I did against Inquirer for possibly implying that foreign investors are foreign invaders. According to the Philippine Star, Representative Carlos Zarate and former congressman Neri Colmenares of Bayad Muna now says that the new constitution will supposedly "favor China". Rep. Zarate even dares to say that charter change (or constitutional reform) will allow China to control the Philippine economy. They are still trying to play the same old trick by lying that foreign investors are foreign invaders. Sigh, do they even realize that it's not Chinese investors that have grieved the Philippines during the Scarborough Shoal conflict (which should be their future country) but the Chinese government? Filipinos who have Chinese friends aren't traitors. For all we know, there are Chinese that are sympathizing with Filipinos over the bullying done by their tyrannical government.
Do I need to remind people that Chinese investors are not necessarily invaders or spies from the Chinese government? Some of them are just looking for freer pastures to engage in free enterprise considering that China's government is indeed a dictatorship. Some of them just want to engage globally and not to aid their corrupt government in world domination. This is just some fear and paranoia. True, some Chinese companies may be engaged in such activities but let's give consideration for friendly Chinese businessmen who just want to do ethical business regardless where they go.
From the ZDNet, we can read the article called "Paranoia will destroy us: Why Huawei and other Chinese tech is not spying on Americans". We can read several important stuff that Huawei and ZTE allegedly leaked important information to enemies of the U.S. but where is the proof? They need to substantiate. Judging the U.S. as a country that's usually populated by idiots -- it's only fair to think that these allegations are, in fact, allegations at best. The same article says that it's just another paranoia that's further destroying America. In fact, it's the growing protectionism and not free trade that's causing the U.S. to decline. It's free trade that made the U.S. great before the growing protectionism. It's economic protectionism that caused countries like Venezuela and North Korea to decline. It's because economic protectionism causes low supplies of jobs and goods for customers and consumers of all types (whether businesses or households). So don't tell me having a good supply of such is bad for the economy?
It's not Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo, etc. or ANY Chinese business firm that's caused the whole unnecessary stir in Scarborough Shoal. It's as said, the Chinese GOVERNMENT's doing. Does Xi Jinping directly own the Chinese businesses? He doesn't own them because those are privately-owned Chinese businesses. You don't see those Chinese businesses doing all the bullying done against China's neighboring countries. The Chinese people are but victims of their government's dictatorship. The enemy is China as a political entity and not the Chinese people themselves.
How should Filipinos treat Chinese investors who just want to do business in the Philippines? Removing 60/40 won't make these Chinese investors dominate the country. Instead, they will be subjected to the laws of the Philippines even if they get 100% ownership. They would be free to have at least 50% with a Filipino partner for a fair deal. Chinese investors that comply with the law (such as paying taxes) can stay and continue to do business in the Philippines. Chinese investors who are caught violating Philippine laws will be treated accordingly such as jail time and deportation. It's all about having a free enterprise fair and square for all its players.
