Yup, Policemen During ASEAN 2017 Got Max's Fried Chicken For Lunch

There are times I want to criticize President Rodrigo R. Duterte for being too extravagant at times. I don't know what I truly feel about giving the policemen Max's Fried Chicken lunch boxes during the #ASEAN2017 Summit. I decided to put my thinking to the test about giving motivation to subordinates. It's all about not just punishing bad behavior but also rewarding good behavior. I think this scene with policemen getting better meals is all about motivating them to do their job right.

What's the problem with why government employees are usually incompetent? It's not just a problem of a lack of discipline but also a lack of motivation. What's the use of having discipline if people are overwork and underpaid? It really encourages employees to be lousy when the environment provides no motivation at all. If excessive praise is dangerous then so is excessive criticism. While people shouldn't expect to be rewarded openly all the time but there should be some small reward whenever possible. Having an improved PNP under General Bato Dela Rosa should be a good reason to reward them with a delicious meal.

If you take a look at the scenario of the really bad pack lunches then maybe that explains why the police force during the Noynoying Years ended up getting worse. A policeman's job is never easy to do. It's even riskier than the regular civilian. They may even have to kill someone to save themselves and/or to save somebody. It should call to one's attention that people who have more difficult jobs are paid really low and remain demotivated. If you work hard but you never get any form of reward sooner or later (such as a reasonable raise) then what's the point of  working hard if you don't get any fair share of the reward? While nobody should work only for rewards but it can get very discouraging when one is misused and abused.

Right now, I hope that while being lavish is a no-no (such as giving policemen free passes to five star restaurants) but at least give them some good motivation. A meal doesn't have to be expensive to taste good. I could enjoy a lot of food even if they are for the working class. This also means getting new economic reforms that will allow people to raise their minimum wage to motivate them to perform better. After all, why should people with the least difficult jobs get too much pay and people with the most difficult jobs get too little of it?
