It'd Be Fun To Have Competent Filipino Athletes Compete In The Winter Olympics In Pyeongchang, South Korea
While it was upsetting to think of two Filipinos who made fool out of themselves in Singapore's diving competition but we do have Michael Christian Martinez to be proud of. He and his mother had NO GOVERNMENT SUPPORT during President Nobita's administration when they first competed in Russia. Although he didn't win the medal that time but one could consider this one: he wowed the audience with his determination. The upcoming Winter Olympics 2018 in Pyeongchang would be new training ground to get better.
There's one truth that is no competition means no competitiveness. Do you think Michael would have reached where he is now if he didn't win and lose several competitions? All the competitions he faced starting with Russia was part of making him who he is right now. It's not because he's a Filipino but because he's a Filipino who worked really hard knowing where his talent lay. It's just like how Lydia De Vega raced several times until she once held the record of Fastest Woman in the World. Cecil Licad had to compete in several piano competitions until she became known as a famous pianist. Gilas wouldn't have had its wins if it didn't win and lose across several competitions. Beverly Caimen wouldn't be the first Filipino woman to get the spot for Kamen Rider Build if she didn't prove herself first. Competition kept them on their toes and they were motivated by their losses to try even harder until they reach the point they have to step aside to give others a chance to win.
Having competent Filipino athletes in the Winter Olympics of 2018 in South Korea would be a good cultural exposure and experience. They don't need to take home the gold but it'd be better if they did or they keep aiming to get the gold until they get it. They should just keep trying their best and join competitions to show everyone their spirit. t would be a good experience whether they win or lose as long as they never show up unprepared. I think Michael himself should be one of them. He has wowed several people whether he won or lose. It'd also show how competition molds up people for the better and the Winter Olympics 2018 will be a new stepping stone for their learning experience.
