Avoiding The Christmas Procrastination And Overspending Altogether

I remembered how often it is when the -ber months come - it's very easy to think about Christmas which is still in DECEMBER and not on SEPTEMBER. September to October supposedly prepares for Teacher's Day (September 28 and October 5 depends on the person), October has Halloween, and November may be in preparation for Thanksgiving Day. Christmas is still in December but why is it that early? Yet, the irony is that the Christmas season comes and many people tend to do one of the worst habits that some Filipinos feel is part of their identity namely PROCRASTINATION. Does planning ahead and showing up on time make one "less Filipino"?" Filipinos on time and planning things ahead are still Filipinos. A late person is a late person regardless of nationality. A Filipino can be on time and plan things early WITHOUT losing their Filipino status and identity.

Don't you think it's the time to STOP PROCRASTINATING and overspending now that it's supposedly "Christmas" and wait for the last minute? Here are a few tips that anybody could give concerning what can be done during the Christmas season to avoid procrastination and its consequences:
  • Save a lot of money and have a budget for all your materials for Christmas celebrations. Don't wait for your 13th-month pay. Instead, stack up money by not overspending on stuff you don't need. Forget the branded items. Don't become poor by trying to look rich! Eat cheaper (but not at the cost of one's health) so you can prepare all the Christmas foods and celebrations. Make the Christmas food special by making them something to look forward to! In short, make sure that you will still have lots of money even after the Christmas celebration. This way, you will end up avoiding the last-minute loan that may get your loved ones killed.
  • Start writing down what you want to give and BUDGET FOR IT. If you can't buy expensive toys or presents then don't. This would be to make sure that you have plenty of money even after the celebrations.
  • Be careful about buying Christmas decorations. Some of these cheaper ones may cause you a lot of money because it resulted in your house burning down. It's much more expensive to build a new house than to get a safe set of Christmas lights. If you can't afford it then don't buy it! Settle for less if you have to.
  • Since food is a perishable item then start doing the Christmas grocery in the first week of December. You can think about it that last-minute Christmas grocery means materials you may want to make your fruit salad or any dish you want to serve will have a 99.9% chance that they're out-of-stock.
  • Maybe order online for Christmas gifts in the first week. Don't wait until it's near Christmas where deliveries will be very scarce.
  • If you can start paying your bills for next year on a November then do it. Never wait until the last minute! Make sure you pay ALL your yearly obligations for the year. Otherwise, you might spend your whole Christmas with a mountain of debt which may land you in jail depending on the situation.
  • Also, just stay away from firecrackers. You definitely don't want to spend the holidays in the hospital now, do you?
