June 12, 1898 Proves That Appealing To Hundreds Of Years Is A Fallacy

Today may not be the official Independence Day but it can still be celebrated that hundreds of years ago, the Philippines was finally liberated from Spanish rule. Now, with that crazy 4Ps-obsessed old man who just loves the 1987 Constitution as the "best constitution" in the world also argues that the Philippines must stick to presidential-unitary because it has hundreds of years experience in it and zero in parliamentary-federal. Worse, he even claims that federalism means several constitutions under one constitution and that the Philippines may have 17 constitutions due to having 17 drafts for a new constitution. That stupid old man who thinks he's so wise (just because he's an old man with a Math degree) must be decaying faster than he thinks. With his love for hundreds of years argument -- then it's time to throw it back at him again.

Does he really even realize that before a hundred years that it always starts with ZERO? The Philippines was once a colony of Spain from 1521 to 1898. He better tell me when did the Philippines become free from the Spanish empire during that time? I could imagine him living under those times. He may have told Jose Rizal, "Fool! Let's just live under the abuses of the empire since we had zero years without reform!" Rizal fought against the hundreds of years stupidity in his country even if he was more for fair treatment of the colonized than he was for actual independence. I guess this stupid old man would have also told the Katipuneros, "Let's not have a revolution! Let's just remain under Spain because we had hundreds of years as Spain's colony and zero years in being independent." if he lived during that time.

Can you imagine what if Jose Rizal and the Katipuneros believed such a notion? Rizal fought for equal opportunity between Filipinos and Spanish in the empire which was long overdue. The Katipuneros desired to have the autonomous Philippines that was free from Spanish rule even if they had hundreds of years experience under said colonizers. If they did subscribe to that stupid old man's thinking -- the Philippines today would have not gained its own autonomy which it soon had on July 4, 1948.
