Nope, Chinese Entertainment Airing On Philippine TV Is NOT A Sign Of Chinese Takeover

Here's a picture of Jim Paredes' latest nonsense which I got from GRP Shorts. For those who can't understand Tagalog, let me translate the Tagalog statements as:

We're now prepared to become their province! Dreamworks is made in China so they say. More like a nightmare and brainwashing!

It'ss stupidity at its finest. Didn't Paredes leave the Philippines sometime last decade and he returned? Yet he has the audacity to show his "nationalism" yet again by making yet another stupid comment.

The problem behind the Chinese aggression in Scarborough Shoal is not on the Chinese people but the CHINESE GOVERNMENT. Those are Chinese military forces and NOT Chinese civilians. Some Chinese are probably glad that their government lost the Spratlys arbitration case because they have friends in the Philippines or they've had enough of their government. Are those shows from China owned by the government or by the Chinese people? If a business from China operates in the Philippines then was it sent by the Chinese government to spy on Filipinos or do business in the Philippines? If the Chinese business doesn't follow rules (such as tax evasion or not meeting safety standards) then the Philippine government has the duty to execute its legal action against it. The same can apply for airing Chinese series, cartoons and movies which are going to be unfortunately crap-dubbed in Tagalog.

It's time to recall the Chinovela craze from Taiwan and China last decade. Did the Philippines become a Chinese colony (or a Taiwanese colony) when Meteor Garden started the Meteor Fever and more Taiwanese drama showed up? Did the Philippines become a colony of China with the Chinese movies shown? No, it's an act of cultural exchange and not an act of war. Instead, it was a cultural exchange. Need I mention when a quality Filipino film (which is sadly an endangered species) makes it abroad -- did the Philippines take over that country? It's just like when Madrasta (Stepmother) starring Sharon Cuneta-Pangilinan got shown in Cinemax -- it was an act of cultural exchange!

Besides, with the ongoing South Korean craze -- I don't see South Korea conquering the Philippines either. No, it's just a matter of fact that South Koreans themselves are simply contributing to the Philippines' cultural exchange zone. You can think of how Korean music gets Filipino covers and how some Filipino songs got Korean covers. It's just like how Jacky Cheung did a cover for Ariel Rivera's song or how "Pagbigyan Ang Puso" (Give Way to the Heart) later got a South Korean cover. The Philippines still retains its sovereignty in the middle of the South Korean craze. As I said, it's a matter of cultural exchange. Did Paredes ever get that into his head?

It also shows one thing that Philippine TV networks themselves have a pathetic dependence on foreign media to keep them running. I guess nobody ever bothers to watch their teleseryes anymore, right? Just think how often teleseryes are getting even more and more criticized. If there's any news for teleseryes then Filipinos have "taken over" Sub-Saharan Africa via teleseryes which hypocritically gets help from what could be a under-performing Chinese TV network. Hmmm... think about that!
