So What If We Have No Hundreds Of Years Of Experience In Jeepney Modernization?

It's been a jeepney strike yesterday and I don't know how to react. Driving without much of those arrogant jeepney drivers is really a good thing. I can't count the number of times I was nearly hit by one. Yesterday, a strike happened because they are opposing President Duterte's plan to modernize the jeepneys because it won't come cheap. Plus, their other excuses may go from the usual argument of it's going to cost more (and if it's new, just expect it) or some may go and say, "But we've had hundreds of years experience with jeepneys and none with jeepney modernization." Take note that when I'm saying "hundreds of years" as a hyperbole.

The typical argument against any change may also include the hundreds of years experience in one area and zero in another. I remembered running into an argument with some old fossil who said that unitary is better than federal because, "We've got a hundred years experience and zero in federal." or that it's going to "complicate things to go federal". Problem solving is never easy -- it will always involve complication. Building a good house will always be complicated because you're not building a nipa hut. Creating a good network system will never be easy because you haven't figured it out yet. But are we going to stay in the same system because it will be difficult to solve the defective and everyone is so used to the defective system for hundreds of years?

In Tagalog, one could say, "Sanay na tayo sa lumang jeepney kaya't huwag na lang natin palitan sa bagong jeepney dahil hindi tayo sanay sa bagong jeepney." In English that means, "We're already so used to the old jeepneys so let's not replace them with new jeepneys because we're not used to them." I guess even if their old jeepneys start to break apart -- they would refuse to use the newer, better jeepneys which are safer and better than their jeepneys? That alone is a poor excuse because nobody is ever born with experience either. You had to gain experience in walking before you can walk the way you do today or you need to gain experience using a crutch before you can use it effectively.

So what do they do? They have a strike because they still want to insist on the use of the "hundred years experience" for the old fashioned jeepneys and no experience driving the upgraded vehicles. This makes me laugh to think that their strikes is to their own demise for one good reason. If they don't work for the day then what will they feed their families? Oh wait, maybe these jeepney strikers are paid by someone huh? After all, there's the saying, "Kapag may rally, may money." or "If there's a rally then there's money." I wonder who's paying these bozos to go on strike? Then again, what if nobody is paying them? The more they strike the more they have NO INCOME for the day.

So what if there's zero experience in driving the new vehicles? Just think of the number of times you had no experience in anything. You had to learn to read, to write, to do Math, to compose sentences, etc. before you arrive to where you are today. The same can go to where I went from a manual vehicle to an automatic vehicle. I had more experience with driving a manual car and zero experience with driving an automatic vehicle. But why did I get an automatic vehicle? It's easier to drive especially in rising slopes and stepping on a clutch is such a burden. So please don't keep using not having experience as an excuse to reject jeepney modernization.
