Of Stranded UP Diliman Students And The Jeepney Inspection Incident

This is one fact that Filipinos need to face it's time to stop being proud of the phenomenon called "stuck with jeepneys". I don't go for hyper-modernization or believing that the modern will always outweigh the old -- the current jeepney system would be among the old that needs to go. It's just like while the principles of writing a good article remain while the typewriter is phased out in favor of the computer -- which reduces waste and promotes more efficiency.

Yesterday, it made me LMAO after reading from the Philippine Star how the jeepney inspection might have been so well-deserved. What's the use of going to school if those students are just going to walk out in order to attend rallies? I think this incident though not intended should be an eye opener. The actions of idiotic UP students hurt those who were serious about attending their classes. It would be like how UP professors who support President Duterte are harmed by those UP professors who continue to do the opposite -- support a dumb opposition that almost knows nothing.

UP Diliman student chancellor Michael Tan decided to address the issues. It's good to address the issue because some of the students who are serious about their studies are indeed missing their classes. I think that the Department of Transportation and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority should coordinate with the UP should they plan an inspection.

What could have caused the surprise inspection? Transportation secretary Arthur Tugade mentioned that UP students have complained about old, dilapidated, smoke-belching jeepneys. Shouldn't that be a call for concern to have those jeepneys inspected because they are literally metal death traps? If there's no inspection then how can proper modernization be done? Besides, if you think about it innovation involves definition, discovery, development, and delivery. No innovation is ever done without doing some fault-finding before something can be done. Right now, jeepney inspections are needed to aid in the badly needed modernization program. Before you blame modernization as a whole for destroying the environment -- ask yourself whether or not the jeepneys are indeed environmentally friendly.

Why are the student groups protesting against the surprise inspection when members of said groups have the bad habit of walking out of their classes to join rallies? What's the use of them going into the university campus if all they do later on is walk out to attend rallies? If they want to attend rallies then why bother commuting going to the university campus, right? They should just go to where the rallies are and rally all day. They should just forget about commuting to school. I wonder if their employers from said organizations are willing to pick them up to go and rally in those places. They don't need jeepneys to go to school because they go there to cause trouble and not to attend their classes.

Besides, if there's someone who should also get the blame for not modernizing the public transportation systems of the Philippines for the better -- we can also blame Noynoy Aquino. He should have made economic reforms such as removing economic protectionism as well as giving a start on modernization. Yes it will be tough but it's also necessary. After all, what's innovative thinking without headaches and what's innovation without setbacks that you need to correct? But it's all part of it to ensure that the Philippines' public transportation system will be.
