Give Filipinos Free Lugaw Or Teach Filipinos To Make Lugaw?

Honestly, I'm finding myself LAUGHING at how outgoing Vice President Leni Loud Robredo is now running her 2022 campaign with a bowl of porridge. I'm not saying that she should be disqualified or anything. However, I'm really here to LAUGH at the absurdity of her campaigns here and then.

The start was trying to make her the Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat approach in her campaign. I remembered watching the movie in 2009 - a year before the late Noynoy Aquino became the 15th president of the Philippines. The movie by ABiaS-CBN in itself showed the perils of the presidential system. The main character, Ina Montecillo, a four-times widowed woman, became the president of the Philippines after the death of Hillary Daffalong by an assassination done by Bill Bilyones. Ina proved herself to be incapable of ruling the nation using the "motherhood approach". Now, Leni Loud's campaign is using the same approach. I'm amused at why they even use pink to support Leni Loud - the very same color of Ina in the same movie!

The event where people lined up for Lugaw Ni Leni in Negros Occidental was already stupid. Social distancing protocols were NOT followed. Now, another event has her with a huge crowd gathering. Sure, there are some people vaccinated but it's not yet a go-light to allow social gatherings. Now, Leni Loud giving out more porridge as part of her campaign. One must wonder if being a good cook is really part of leading the country? I don't mind if Leni Loud decides to open a restaurant or a franchise as long as she follows protocols. The problem (again) is that Leni Loud seems to ignore simple guidelines A LOT. What's the use of criticizing Bobong Marcos if she herself is being pasaway? Then again didn't Leni Loud even say that the public (daw) is not to blame

I can't believe some people have become quite simple-minded short-term thinkers. Then again isn't short-term thinking more fun in the Philippines? People tend to have the mentality of thinking about their short-term happiness in Lala Land. A good example is the poor budgeting habits of people are very prevalent which puts them into trouble. I guess they're more looking forward to a free meal rather than to making money to have a meal daily. I wonder if it's time to really make a Filipino version of the Chinese proverb about fishing? Maybe, I'd say it as, "Give Filipinos free porridge and they will have a meal for a day. Teach Filipinos how to make porridge and they will have a meal for a lifetime." It's because a free meal is a one-shot deal. Learning how to make money to buy a meal or ingredients to make a meal goes beyond a day's serving.

This makes you wonder if Leni Loud is really serious about economic reforms? If she is then why not start a lugaw-making seminar instead to start making a point? Well, of course, be careful about who to admit and make sure that social distancing guidelines are followed. While at it - Leni Loud can start to support economic liberalization completely. Noynoy made some important economic reforms but there are still some OFWs here and there. Noynoy may have made a good economic foundation but we want to increase the job opportunities. Leni Loud should focus on providing more jobs to reduce the need for OFWs with better investments. Is corruption the bigger issue of lower FDI this time around? I'd rather say it's the failure to ease restrictions. Vietnam may be a communist country with corruption issues but it's got better economics than the Philippines. That is Leni Loud should support economic liberalization beyond easing restrictions like what Fidel V. Ramos up to Noynoy did during their terms. That is remove the excessive restrictions COMPLETELY. We'd want to first work on the utility sector that is to remove the 60-40 restriction by allowing more power companies, more water companies, more telecommunications companies, etc. to invest in the Philippines without the need of a Filipino partner. The only thing they need to do is to pay rent and pay taxes.
