How The "Ang Tanging Ina Ninyong Lahat" Movie Shows The Perils Of The Presidential System

I admit that I really don't like most Filipino entertainment these days. Before, there were really good Filipino movies such as Anak (Child) which showed the perils of the OFW program. Now, it's time to consider another movie called Ang Tanging Ina Ninyong Lahat (The Only Mother to You All) or better renamed as Ang Putang-Ina Ninyong Lahat (The MOFO to You All) because of how horrible the movie is. Though, I decided to rewatch the movie to get a crazy idea on what to write on. I suggest watching this corny movie if you at least want to get an insight into how terrible the presidential system can get.

Ina Montecillo is a woman who is four times widowed. I decided to watch the first movie Ang Tanging Ina to at least understand her stupidity. The first movie showed her reckless behavior where she got married three times. She could have stayed single but her rashness led her to have twelve children from three different late husbands. She and her best friend Rowena always came up with shenanigans. They got the bus company sold for only PHP 1,000.00 and they wasted it on horse racing. Some of the children have no idea what life is. Ina's rather bad life skills such as overspending are highlighted. I don't blame Severina for not wanting to write an essay about her mother. Although she does love her children - that doesn't cover up her incompetence and refusing to get over it, right?

The second movie itself now shows just how bad the presidential system can get. One can consider the speech of Hillary Daffalong about OFWs and economics. Like, haven't they heard of OPENING UP THE ECONOMY? The assassination of Hillary at the hands of her vice president Bill Bilyones triggers a crisis. The stupidity has to be that people decided to vote for Ina who had no experience. The children even think the Cory Aquino years were a restoration period when it wasn't. The 1987 Constitution was just a band-aid job of the 1973 Constitution. The Aquinos simply worsened that the Marcoses started economic-wise. Bill Bilyones challenged Ina to a snap election and she bit it. She became president and one can consider one disaster after the other.

It's stupid how Ina never learned from her mistakes even in the first movie. If she can't even handle her family well then how can she handle the nation? She decided to become the president so her children can be proud of her. But can she make a good president? Well, she decided to have her stupid shenanigans like going to the Middle East to get free oil. Please, how can the Arabs continue providing oil if she doesn't pay them up? Also, her programs like the rice program and education program are a disaster. Her lack of common sense was appalling with how her advisers are just based on her friendships. However, the bigger problem is the SYSTEM itself. The system allowed a person as stupid as Ina to have the highest rank.

That's really the problem of saying democracy is based on popularity. Do you even know the basic definition of democracy? Democracy is a government of the PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE, and for the PEOPLE and not a government of the majority, by the majority, and for the majority. The people include minorities as part of it and remember that majorities can become tyrannies too. The majority certainly made a mistake in even endorsing Ina. Bill may be corrupt but that doesn't make Ina a better president. I can't imagine how much money the Philippines has left in the movie after Ina stepped down from her presidency.

Presidential systems also allow KNOW-NOTHINGS to get into power. The legislation is so full of people who know nothing about basic economics and politics. Do you remember how Joseph Estrada's presidency even had more know-nothings that sat in power than it was in Cory's time? Many of the legislators had NO POLITICAL EXPERIENCE. A lot of celebrities and athletes ran for politics and started winning left and right. What do celebrities and athletes know about coming up with good economic and political policies? Worse, the lack of weekly questioning in the presidential system makes check and balance even shakier. That's what the movie Ang Tanging Ina Niyong Lahat ends up showing.
