Lee Seung Gi's Vagabond Tour Last Week Proves That Mainstream Philippine Entertainment Is A Zombie Trend
It's not the sh*tty teleseryes that keep ABiaS-CBN and GMA-7 from completely falling down. It's foreign shows that they dub into Tagalog because most of them are better than their teleseryes. The bill which was allegedly to ban K-Drama to protect the teleserye actors would actually backfire at both networks. There are still some people who would actually still watch the cringe-worthy dubs which I'd not watch. These people are probably those who belong to those who can't stand reading subtitles. It's also because K-Dramas are miles better than their teleseryes. If they were airing nothing but teleseryes - they would have already died at their own hands much long ago! If you insist that teleseryes need to be watched for the sake of "nationalism" then those TV networks will have to produce one without any imported equipment whatsoever.
It's really no secret that the mainstream entertainment of the Philippines is really down. Imperial Manila Film Festival is already a bore-fest. They want to keep making excuses to accommodate more of the garbage films. We can consider the downfall of Kris Aquino is just one. If anything, the hypocrisy goes a long way. They always insist on protectionism while using imported stuff to promote it. The oligarch networks have had their long privilege of having very little competition in the past. Now, they end up having to organize an event for famous international stars because most of their local stars aren't giving them their badly needed revenues. So really, why aren't they thinking of new ways to innovate their shows than to get stuck in the messy formula they've had for years?
Also, I really do think ABiaS-CBN will really get the right to air Vagabond judging by what happened. But I'm not watching them dubbing it knowing how it'd turn out, right? Then again some people would probably still watch Vagabond's bad dub over the teleseryes that ABiaS-CBN shows a lot huh?
