May to June comes to mind with a lot of feasts, right? I decided to write this post due to the fact that the current COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing and a lot of fiestas are CANCELLED. One time, I remembered writing a post about considering celebrations to be more important than one's duties. This time, there's the duty that people have to follow. They have the duty to follow community quarantine guidelines. Some of these involve the use of the quarantine card, social distancing, vehicles should have a certain limit of people riding on it, a curfew from 8 AM to 5 AM, not going out of your house unless ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, and the alcohol ban. However, some people just REFUSE to follow simple guidelines, right?
Do you ever get the stupid logic behind fiestas? Some people say that they attend fiestas in order to have a good time or to forget their problems. The logic itself is screwed up because if you celebrate when you have NO MONEY such as what happens during Christmas and New Year. If they want to celebrate their fiestas during the COVID-19 pandemic then they have to be really THAT STUPID. I may no doctor or health worker but I understand the necessity to cancel events. COVID-19 is a HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS disease and it's asymptomatic. Meaning, you may be carrying the disease and the symptoms don't immediately show. I hear one person can infect up to ten persons (or even more) and just imagine if fiestas are held during the COVID-19 pandemic. The incident where some people did a boodle fight with "social distancing" was totally facedesk-worthy. What part of social distancing can't they get? Plus, they have their SALIVA into the food which can help spread the germs too.
If they want to celebrate the fiestas DURING COVID-19 to ignore the problem then they're stupid. You can't get rid of the problems by ignoring them. You don't ignore problem-solving in a Mathematics test to get it right. Trying to distract people away from the REALITY of COVID-19 by having a fiesta is just the incident in Edgar Allan Poe's short story called The Masque of the Red Death. There was a red plague worse than the Coronavirus that plagued the country. The king tried to ignore the problem by having a party. In the end, the Grim Reaper entered and killed all the guests who had a party. Today, you can have the fiesta where people try to ignore the COVID-19 epidemic by having a social gathering. With so many guests how can there even be strict temperature checking and social distancing during the fiesta? Chances are so many people are entering asymptomatic. The boodle fight begins and it's always more fun not to do social distancing right? Then the next thing you know the whole municipality, the whole province, or even the whole country gets a huge surge in infection because of having a fiesta during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Instead of having fiestas, COVID-19 should be the time to relearn the meaning of the word serious. It's because COVID-19 is no laughing matter. While it's important to have a sense of humor but not having an inappropriate sense of humor. It would be good to at least binge-watch some Mr. Bean or Charlie Chaplin (and hospitals may consider letting COVID-19 patients watch such shows as they heal) but let's avoid throwing inappropriate jokes such as spreading false alarms for fun. As of this point, I think restaurants giving delicious food to frontliners and patients is already a fiesta in itself as they're making people happy with their support.
