Is it me or is the Philippines a country that's full of people habitually seeking instant solutions but fails to be on time? Right now, there are even people who are tagging #LetLeniLead because they feel that Vice President Leni Loud Robredo herself will do a better job. Why am I happy that President Rodrigo R. Duterte fired Manuelito Luna from PACC? It's because Angat Buhay is there to help. If anything, Angat Buhay is but another vehicle to help people who are afflicted by COVID-19. I think it's all about COMPETITION that would keep the government and private institutions on their toes. If anything, I'd probably donate to both Duterte and Leni Loud so they will be on their toes. Leni Loud should serve as competition to Duterte and vice-versa. I think Duterte acknowledges the fact that Angat Buhay is badly needed competition to keep the government on its toes. Angat Buhay is also an alternative to people who dislike Duterte.
However, the challenge always comes with Yellowtards do need to explain their part as to how Leni Loud will become a better president. They have their platform but now they must speak up as to why it should be #LetLeniLead. Yes, they have their right to explain so they need to say it. As for their favorite Filipino-American ally Loida Nicolas Lewis - she should've explained as to why Leni Loud would make a good president. At least, Mar Roxas himself had an impressive resume. Back to the challenge - I do feel like that a lot of Filipinos tend to think that changing leaders equals instant solutions. I think Duterte only won because of that mentality. Some think Leni Loud will do better because Duterte couldn't fix the country in three to six months as he failed to do.
Let's assume that Leni Loud really gets to #LetLeniLead. Let's say Duterte decided to leave everything to Leni Loud because she one day found a cure for COVID-19. Let's imagine that Leni will be a translational president like Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was after Joseph Estrada's removal from power. Chances are a lot of pasaways tagging #LetLeniLead would celebrate believing that their beloved Leni Loud. They will think that Leni Loud will make everything go back to normal, remove community quarantine. In another scenario, they may expect that she will magically cure COVID-19. If people are asking Duterte to resign because of the three to six months' promise then Leni Loud herself is in no better position. Leni Loud might be promising to cure COVID-19 or lead the country to a better direction.
Chances are Leni Loud herself if she were president right now would tighten her grip. She might get a lot of paper load from Spox Harry Roque with a list of provinces at high risk. Let's say that Leni Loud herself was advised that she should give a budget for contact tracing and that mass testing may not work. Some are expecting mass testing but Leni Loud as president announces that she won't do mass testing and that contact tracing will be done instead. Leni Loud may even pass a presidential decree that will allow other political parties and so on to compete with Angat Buhay. She may say that the Philippines can ease in other areas but puts Manila under stricter discipline. Her experience at Angat Buhay may make her realize she can't be too soft. She might decide she needs to be harder than nails that she would say, "Either follow guidelines or risk getting COVID-19!" Well, that's something that the pasaways won't like, right?
Then the next things that may hypothetically do is tag #LeniResign. It's because she might break their expectations. Instead of expecting their freedom - Leni Loud would probably still restrict their freedom due to circumstances. She may even make pasaways sign the TWAT agreement as a result of the stress she suffered during her voluntary work at Angat Buhay. She might even make celebrities who don't follow guidelines work with Mocha Usok and Koko Pimentel under the heat of the sun. Maybe, just maybe, she might decide to straighten up like her late husband Jesse Robredo - something pasaways wouldn't want, right?
