Maria Ressa Uses Her #VictimCard As BIR Reveals Her Possible Tax Deficiency Of PHP 133.84 Million

I'm seriously getting tired with how the Dilawans today are playing the victim card whenever something bad happens. What should be surprising (or not) is that now Maria Ressa is most likely lying through her teeth with this report from GMA-7:

Rappler’s chief executive officer Maria Ressa slammed the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s for filing a tax evasion complaint against it and labeled the move as another attempt by the Duterte administration to silence critical reporting.

“This is clear intimidation and harassment. The government is wasting its energy and resources in an attempt to silence reporting that does not please the administration,” Ressa said in a statement on Thursday.

The BIR filed a tax evasion complaint against Rappler Holdings Corp., citing a tax deficiency of P133.84 million in relation to Philippine Depositary Receipts (PDRs) it issued to foreign investors.

In a separate report on Rappler, Ressa called the complaint “ludicrous” and urged the BIR to “check its own records.”

Rappler said it has been paying taxes “accurately, promptly, and diligently” with no less than the BIR commending it as one of the top 500 corporate taxpayers of Revenue Region 7.

“Rappler has always been transparent and above board in all its dealings and transactions. And the records will bear us out,” the embattled online news site said.

Rappler said it was not surprised by this “latest government move to harass us” but was shocked by the speed with which the BIR filed a complaint before the Department of Justice after BIR agents delivered on Monday, March 5, a letter that was “remarkable for its lack of details.”

Rappler said it received on March 5 letters of authority signed by BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay authorizing Revenue Officer Ed Al Renzi Salles, Intelligence Officer Rosanna Berba, and Group Supervisor Editha Quilantang to examine Rappler’s “book of accounts and other accounting records for ALL INTERNAL REVENUE TAXES for the period from January 01, 2014 to December 31, 2015.”

The BIR then required Rappler to present a total of 47 documents and records for examination, the company said.

“No documents have been submitted as of today, which means no examination has been made whatsoever by the BIR. Without this examination, there is clearly no basis for a tax evasion complaint,” it said.

Under normal procedure, respondents are usually given 30 days to reply, Rappler said citing its lawyers.

Rappler has repeatedly earned the ire of Duterte and other Palace officials over what they view as irresponsible reporting.

On January 15, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) revoked the certificates of incorporation of Rappler Inc. and Rappler Holdings Corp. for supposedly violating foreign ownership restrictions on mass media companies.

According to the SEC, Rappler violated the Constitution and laws when it allowed Omidyar Network, one of the Philippine Depositary Receipt (PDR) holders of Rappler, to exercise control over its corporate affairs as provided for in their internal agreement, in exchange for a fund infusion of $1 million. —Ted Cordero/VDS, GMA News

I would like to address this idiotic woman. How can she talk about harassment and intimidation when pages like #ChangeScamming, #SilentMoMorePH, Juan Nationalist, Pepeng Makabayan, Pinoy Ako Blog and many more are CONTINUING to harass President Duterte's supporters online? What about all those Yellowtard trolls on the Internet who are continuing to derail President Duterte with non-factual data or fake news? Hmmm should I mention that Rappler may be an approved source for the Yellow trolls to try and dismantle the government? Also, it's not because the stories aren't pleasing to the government but because they are spreading FAKE NEWS while pretending to be against it.

Now she even dares to talk about the government trying to silence reports that don't please the current administration. Please, if I'm not wrong, we've had plenty of Yellowtards who were controlling Facebook Philippines prior to the current adminsitration as well other networks within the Philippine territory -- hoping to silence people from spreading the truth about the Noynoying Years. They were setting up pages like #OrasNaRoxasNa and the like in order to keep their power in order. Should I even mention the rather excessive cyberlibel law? While libel shouldn't be condoned but it should be defined and measured before anyone can sue. Unfortunately, the anti-cyberlibel law was most likely used in a pathetic attempt to silence their critics.

Is Rappler really transparent in all its dealings as Ressa claims? Well don't make people laugh because it's laughable. They better explain the whole issues with the SEC and the BIR. A simple change in administration ended up uncovering Rappler's dirty deals. Also, they have continued to plead harassment for BIR's investigation. This is where the Yellowtards are revealed for their hypocrisy. They have the right to harass others but others don't have the right to harass them. This makes me want to mention since when were was there any real sense of give and take in the Philippines' cultural atmosphere?

At this point, if proven true then it may be the end of Ressa's career. But tax evasion hasn't been the only thing she's up against. She can also be charged with real cybercrime by reporting fake news on the web in an attempt to derail the government. It may no longer be simple cyber-libel but cyber-sedition considering the content that's being written against the current administration. Also, how many people were damaged by this dreaded news network anyway?
