I'm just amazed at how some people continue to use the Marcoses as an excuse not to shift to the parliamentary system. The EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE against it is already there from the late Lee Kuan Yew's book From Third World to First to the late Ninoy Aquino's speech in Boston. The way Lee called Cesar Virata NO POLITICAL LEADER should show it was a fake parliament. A real parliament doesn't have the president pick the prime minister. Ninoy even explained how the British parliamentary works. Yet, you've got some idiots who believe that the Marcos Years were a real parliamentary when it's just for show. Some say the battle isn't over Leni Loud. However, it's really over (for now) if there's no real parliamentary system. But, what if the Philippines were a parliamentary system?
As explained MANY TIMES - a parliamentary system has both the Government and Opposition ruling. Right now, we've got both Bobong Marcos and Sara Duterte-Carpio as president and vice president. Finally, two presidents coming from the SAME PARTY in contrast to what we had with Fidel V. Ramos, Joseph Estrada, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the late Noynoy Aquino, and outgoing President Rodrigo R. Duterte. So, Uniteam won the seats, right? I believe we're more than ready for a parliamentary form of government. It's not because were' having another Marcos. It's because the president and vice president are from the same party. It's because Leni Loud now has (more or less) an opposition we can work with.
Uniteam and Angat Buhays (or Kakampinks) can now form two sides of the coin - the government and the opposition. The fight won't be over for Leni Loud because she and Kikoman Pangilinan will need to form their Shadow Cabinet. The Kakampinks will have their REPRESENTATION which can't happen under a parliamentary system. A parliamentary system isn't winner takes all. The winning party doesn't end the competition. In fact, it's the beginning of another ball game. Leni Loud and Kikoman will have their shadow ministers ready to counter Bobong's actual ministers. Bobong's appointees must now prove to the Filipino people that they can counter Leni Loud's set of appointees. For example, Bobong chooses his own audit minister. Meanwhile, Leni Loud can have Michael Aguinaldo act has her shadow audit minister.
Even better, the Kakampinks get to have a LIVE TELEVISED DEBATE against the BBM Government. Bobong as prime minister must prove himself. Leni Loud will have the duty to hold Bobong accountable by questioning him. The fight won't end with the parliamentary elections. Instead, the parliamentary elections are the BEGINNING of the fights. It's a preview of what could happen. Bobong wins but the fight has just begun. Leni Loud becomes the opposition leader and the fight for her continues.
The parliamentary system will also prevent Bobong from becoming a dictator like his late father. Parliamentary systems allow more than one term IF the same Member of the Parliament is competent. If Bobong should SCREW UP as a prime minister - Leni Loud and the Opposition can collectively call for a vote of no confidence. Bobong either has to uphold confidence in everyone at the weekly question hour or RISK GETTING VOTED OUT. Either way, Bobong as a prime minister wouldn't be a threat at all in contrast to the FAKE parliamentary his father made.
