#RIPEDSA 1986 Celebration

Is it safe to say #RIPEDSA and #EDSAisDead? #RIPDemocracy? No it's just #RIPEDSA and the whole sham that lies "democracy is dead" (and I remembered writing a joke that says that democracy is truly dead last September 21, 2017) is getting older than one's grandparents' set of dentures. We should now consider the death of the spirit of EDSA is on. So why is EDSA dead? Let's take a look at the history of EDSA and how the perception of it changed overtime.

As a child, I used to fear martial law and love the EDSA revolution. Yes, I still believe that the late Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. is a despot (yet he also did build some useful projects) but that doesn't give the COMELEC and the Yellowtards the right to cheat Bongbong Marcos of his votes! It doesn't mean that the end of one despotic regime means the automatic rise of democracy. EDSA did topple down Marcos' dictatorship but there's one question that needs to ask -- was democracy truly restored or does the Philippines have the right kind of democracy?

Remembering the Cory years disaster

I remembered reading back in the 90s an article that says, "How corrupt then stupid" which refers to both Marcos Sr. and Cory. The years came by and I started to look at the idiocy of the Cory presidency. Why did she even get those awards? What did she do during EDSA? She didn't even lead it. She was merely a figurehead because she was the widow of someone who they regarded as a hero namely Ninoy Aquino. They viewed Ninoy as a hero yet more evidence leads that he was actually a failed coup plotter. Cory herself was then selected to be the new president -- all because they thought Ninoy was a hero. She was chosen to be the next president even if she was an inexperienced housewife who couldn't even manage her own household! Besides, she didn't even lead the revolution either unlike George Washington who actually led the revolution for a British-free America!

I may not like Marcos (though I appreciate his projects) but he had led some valid points about Cory being an inexperienced housewife. We can take a look at some of the women of great power such as Aung San Suu Kyi -- a real hardcore strong woman with political experience. But what experience did Cory have in leading? None! Yet some crazy Yellowtard old man keeps insisting that the Philippines must remain presidential-unitary because of experience yet he adores Cory who has ZERO EXPERIENCE as one of the best presidents ever. What does a housewife know about governing or running a country? NONE!

The 90s can be a bittersweet thing. I remembered how everything started to fall apart also in the 90s. I could remember all the brownouts. Typhoon Ruping caused ONE MONTH without electricity from where I lived -- it was very traumatic that I started dreading brownouts ever since. The whole country started continuing into crony capitalism (and made it EVEN WORSE than the Marcos cronyism) which couldn't be possible without the blessing of economic protectionism. Who can remember how PLDT took VERY LONG to address services until competition arrived in the form of Globe? Yet one can't deny that the duopoly itself isn't really doing much wonders either.

Post-Cory years woes remembered

The Cory years ended and yet not so many remember the Beltran incident where Luis Beltran was unjustly sued for libel. Was Cory even damaged by Beltran's article? I doubt it but her ego got into the way and Beltran suffered a much bigger penalty than he should have. The Cory years ended and we could have had a better presidency under Fidel V. Ramos. While Ramos himself isn't really clean but we know he had great plans for a better Philippines. He saw the 1987 Constitution as an outdated framework and wanted to change it. Yet there was the fear-mongering that happened with Ramos' three point agenda which hopefully President Rodrigo R. Duterte will succeed in it. Then the fear-mongering happened as it was done by the Yellowtards and their allies. It was also that time when Overseas Filipino Workers were sung as the "new heroes" -- never mind that the phenomenon has been breaking families apart! It's not even world conquest as the Philippines still hasn't taken over the world through the OFW program!

Former President Ramos himself wanted to do three things -- change from presidential to parliamentary, change from unitary to federalism and liberate the economy. Yet, the fear-mongering had caused him to be unsuccessful. Who controlled the press and digital media back then but the oligarchs, right? They were already spreading harmful lies that Ramos was trying to become a dictator through the parliamentary system (where term limits are much longer), that federalism will lead to warlords (HUH?), and that liberating the economy will cause the Philippines to be exploited by foreigners. That alone caused what could have been a glorious shift of the Philippines to falter. While Ramos made a mistake by calling Flor Contemplacion a "heroine" yet he didn't antagonize the state of Singapore. He was probably trying to emulate Lee Kuan Yew but failed.

The whole system left by Cory led to several more stupidities for years to come. The government was run based on popularity-based systems -- that's because the presidential system is ran on popularity-based systems. It has continued a legacy where most Filipinos think that democracy equals a dysfunctional sense of freedom. It made me remember of a number of times where many Filipinos I know litter, party all night and break simple guidelines all in the name of democracy. The problem isn't democracy but how Filipinos view democracy -- in short the kind of democracy that governs any country really matters! The bigger problem is not the Filipino but the kind of system that governs the Filipino!

The problem continued with electing people based on preposterous promises, throwing them out when said promise can't be fulfilled AND electing more people based on preposterous promises. The House of Representatives and Senate are filled with people who KNOW NOTHING about legislation. We could have had doctors, economists, engineers and the like as lawmakers -- instead, we are stuck with actors and athletes without political experience before entering the legislative body! So how much is that the promised progress brought after EDSA? It's all but a bogus that has led to its demise for years to come.

The collapse of EDSA in the following years

Then we have the Noynoying years which voted for Noynoy Aquino because his mother died. His regime ended up revealing everything wrong about the Dilawans. Just imagine how the Noynoy presidency inadvertently revealed the true color of the Yellows. He appointed one Yellowtard after the other for their respective positions. It ended up revealing the odor of the Yellowtards like never before as issues such as the Hacienda Luisita Massacre were brought back after many years. Worse, you have several anomalies such as the Bureau of Customs, the NAIA airport decay, the Yolanda funds missing scam, MRT deterioration, SAF-44 disaster due to mismanagement and misdirection, and the list can go on and on, right?

The problem can also be said to have gotten worse under the age of social media where the battle for the truth is a heavy ground. While fake news does flood social media (and some of them are well-disguised as "fact checkers" and act as legitimate news fronts who only share the truth when it's convenient) yet there's viral truths now. The mainstream media controlled by the oligarchs can't hide their actions any longer as they only have a picture of their crowd all the while technology related to aerial view shows that they are dwindling in numbers. The mainstream media just refuses to move on and continue in partisan politics.

People are now more aware. More and more Filipinos are getting awakened because there is the capacity to evolve. They have seen what's wrong with the years of running based on the Yellow Engine. The Yellow Empire is crumbling like there's no tomorrow. They are desperate enough to make sure that the Yellow Media still stays strong. But guess what -- there's now the Internet and Netflix. Sure, Philippine Internet is still slow but it doesn't mean that there's no alternatives. Some Filipinos have awakened from their years of being a Failipino and have started to see EDSA for what it is. EDSA will always be remembered for just being another power grab that led to worsening the country.

Evolution is indeed important. It's just like businesses need to know not just to innovate but also how to innovate to adjust to current times. Many stuff we had before are now obsolete such as cassette tapes, betamax, VHS, typewriters, Windows 3.5, Windows 95 and many more. EDSA has ended up in that same direction. It's more than time to move on from EDSA because it's now obsolete. It's now dead. It has proven itself to be no longer as useful in this day and age. It's because it failed to deliver its promise of progress. In fact, if there's any EDSA Revolution needed right now -- it's an EDSA Revolution against the old constitution and kick in with the new for a Federal-Parliamentary and economically liberated Philippines!
