I just thought of the recent problem of the Philippines facing the whole illegal Chinese crisis. But before Filipinos can rightfully demand for the deportation of any illegal foreigner in their country -- they too must agree that illegal Filipinos also need to be deported from the countries they're in. This has me thinking what has been causing the amount of Filipinos to become TNT workers in many countries around the world?
You guessed it -- it's the OFW Phenomenon! Don't believe even for a nanosecond that the increase of OFWs means that Filipinos are taking over the world -- it's not! Rather, the reflection of having Filipinos scattered all over the world can be compared to the Chinese mass migration that happened during the time of Mao Zedong. Mao left China to be so impoverished resulting to many Chinese working as menial workers almost everywhere around the world. Did China take over the world that time? No, it was proof that China was becoming so sucky that Chinese families ended up moving in different parts of the globe. Later on, some of them succeeded while others failed. The phenomenon of many Filipinos around the world are no different.
This can also be contributed to economic protectionism. The whole limit of 60/40 or higher for most industries has caused a reduction in job opportunities. There's too few Filipino businessmen and too many Filipinos needing jobs. Becoming a legitimate OFW with the VISA and everything is a hassle so that's why they resolve to becoming illegal migrants. It does cost a lot of money to get a working VISA and many need the money. This always gets them to become illegal migrants in the process. But if the Philippines got rid of "Filipino first policy" so many years ago then the phenomenon of illegal Filipino workers would't be as severe as it has become today!
