The Big Difference Between Resilience VS. Having Fun During Times Of Calamities

Well it's flood season again and any sane person would take it seriously. But no, some areas of the Philippines have people who now think that "Floods -- It's More Fun in the Philippines" as evidenced by this old picture above. Doesn't it make you want to facedesk? Instead of actually doing something about floods -- there's the attitude of indifference. It almost reminds me of what I heard about how many residents in Pompeii kept IGNORING the signs of Mt. Vesuvius was about erupt until it was too late. Is it me or is natural disaster awareness really that foreign in the Philippines for some time?

So how do we define resilience? A definition of resilience means the capacity to recover quickly from difficult situations or toughness. Should we even consider the trait of treating floods indifferently as a time to make merry to be a characteristic of a resilient Filipino? I wouldn't dare say so. This kind of resilience is not resilience nor should it be advertised as such. It should be more of stupidity for this reason. Such stupid people have NOT truly recovered from the difficult situation. Instead, it's some form of escapism -- rather than face reality that thye need to do something about the disaster -- instead they still continue to make merry. Hmmm... I wonder if they will still continue to make merry even when the floods are hitting their ceilings have a disco party as it rises up?

Want a real good example of resilience and a Filipino who's truly resilient? It's something that must be built and established overtime. If you want to see a resilient Filipino then look for one who's actually prepared during the sunny days when the rainy days come. He or she would actually make plans to be ready for any disaster. They would be prepared to make sure that they have enough money and materials to survive and for future repairs in the case of disasters. That way, they become resilient when disaster strikes because they were always ready for it. They may be safe in the evacuation center during a calamity while the others may die enjoying their blunder.
