Tomorrow is #NinoyAquinoDay or better yet called as Yellowtard Day. The whole legacy of the Liberal Party has been 30+ years of failure. Not only did they continue crony capitalism but they have also set up the 1987 Constitution -- even to go as far as to say that it's built upon the hundreds of years argument which is unfortunately a fallacy built upon the fear of change. The promised change last 1987 is better said as, "Where is it? Where is the promised progress that you Yellows promised?" Unfortunately, they have set a government ran by the oligarchy because it upholds economic protectionism, the Imperial Manila system helped set up the mindset where being Tagalog automatically meant one was an "expert" of the Philippines and not to mention the Yellows have also cancelled projects that could have been useful -- thanks to the faulty presidential system!
Okay, I'm pretty skeptical and critical on building nuclear energy plants in the Philippines because it does possess very high risk. I could understand if Cory Aquino herself was concerned about that but did she have to totally disregard a potential project in its place? Hmmm I guess she probably taught her son the nonsense that he said years later to the Marcos children (both Bongbong and Imee) that what would be the use of solar plants if it's cloudy or the wind power plant if there's no wind. She could have actually studied some basic science that solar plants store the energy inside photovoltaic cells for later use? I mean, what if she decided to convert the unfinished plant into a solar-powered plant? I guess she deserved that article I read about, "How corrupt then stupid..." in reference to both Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. and her. After all, I grew up in the Cory Years getting so mad at the brownouts that kept happening or even the month-long brownout after Typhoon Ruping.
Just think of what if Cory decided to actually pick up the Bataan plant project and establish it one way or another. Her petty hatred for Marcos just caused it to be cancelled. She could have picked up what good Marcos did but no -- she just let whatever petty grudges came in. Building that Bataan power plant could have helped activate the Philippines to progress. Unfortunately, the Philippines still suffers from energy crisis. What's worse is that Noynoy even opposes both wind and solar energy plants all because of non-windy days and cloudy days -- maybe because they were projects by both Bongbong and Imee.
The other is the issue of flood control. Noynoy could have just let bygones be bygones and pick up the flood control project of House Speaker Arroyo when he became president. Instead, he decided to ignore it and blame Gloria. Perhaps one area where President Duterte stands out against Noynoy is that the former decided to finish the project of the latter. Noynoy started the foundations of the second Mactan International Airport -- President Duterte would later finish it. Noynoy could have done the same with Gloria's flood control scheme. He could have decided to shoulder it and finish it. Just imagine how many floods could have been prevented if he decided not to cancel Gloria's project out of spite.
This may have not been the case if the Philippines were under a parliamentary system. Cory Aquino herself who had zero political experience wouldn't even be qualified to sit as either president (symbolic Head of State for people to look up to) or prime minister (Head of Government). If Noynoy were ever elected as prime minister by the Parliament then he would have probably been skewered for several of his mistakes -- such as the Manila Hostage Crisis negotiation failure, the Mamasapano fiasco or he would even be questioned why he proposes to dump former prime minister Gloria's anti-flood project or leave the Bataan project unattended -- especially if the Senators in the parliament see that both projects would benefit the Philippines. It would have already led to him getting ousted by a vote of no confidence if he were prime minister.
