Here's an excerpt from CNBC which makes me think about the future of Xiaomi in the free market with some red-tagging:
GUANGZHOU, China — Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi was the second-largest smartphone maker in the second quarter, overtaking Apple, according to analyst firm Canalys.
Xiaomi had a 17% share of global smartphone shipments, ahead of Apple’s 14% and behind Samsung’s 19%.
“Xiaomi is growing its overseas business rapidly,” Canalys research manager Ben Stanton said in a press release, noting shipments increased 300% year on year in Latin America and 50% in Western Europe.
The Chinese smartphone maker posted year-on-year smartphone shipment growth of 83% versus 15% for Samsung and 1% for Apple.
Quite interestingly, Rappler's Kyle Chua also wrote an article about five things to love about Xiaomi. Hmmm ironic how Bayad Muna's Teddy Casino is also a writer at Rappler. Ironic how Filipino communists LOVE communism but they sure do hate Communist China! This makes me think of how Communist China's economic history would tell us how Xiaomi from a COMMUNIST country is now defeating two phones from two democratic countries (the USA and South Korea). So, what really happened? Does this prove protectionism works? If so, why hasn't North Korea's Koryolink become a global brand and why has Xiaomi become a global brand?

Today, we've got historical websites and Google to help do some research. One can take a look at documentaries from Netflix or other related platforms about Communist China's rise to power. There are also books about Deng Xiaoping which one can download on Google Play or the Apple store. The late Lee Kuan Yew spoke highly of Deng calling him a "great man". Deng's creation of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics (or I prefer to call it Communism with Chinese Characteristics) drastically shaped China. Unlike Mao Zedong, Deng's approach to China's industrialization was, "It doesn't matter if the cat is black or white - what's important is that it catches mice." Deng learned from Lee's model and created the real Great Leap Forward that Mao failed to realize. Deng abandoned traditional Marxism and wrote his own Communist Manifesto.
Why did Mao's Great Leap Forward fail? Mao subscribed to the absurdity of "sariling atin only" economy. Mao tried to do what he did by restructuring China to make the best Chinese steel and the like. Mao could've hired foreign talent or welcome foreign steel manufacturers for the Great Leap Forward. Instead, Mao closed China from the world. Maoism ended up taking a nosedive as a result. Ironic really that Filipino communists still regard Mao as one of their heroes even after his methods have FAILED. Mao's methods failed because of one simple rule - supply and demand. The steel that he made was of poor material proving "sariling atin only" is a failure. Maybe, your favorite food also defines your character. Mao's love for red-braised pork is an unhealthy thing. Mao only thought of enriching himself and his cronies. Deng's favorite food is Double Taste Fiery Pot - a fish dish which may explain why Deng is considerably healthier than Mao.
Meanwhile, Deng's approach was radically different. Deng knew that foreign investments don't go against the development of the national industry. It was the opportunity for Chinese businesses to grow through foreign direct investments (FDIs) and multinational corporations (MNCs). Deng didn't wait for Chinese to become business savvy as Benign0 of Get Real Philippines (GRP) would want to think. Instead, Deng's approach was that the Chinese can become business savvy while they're employed in the MNCs that he invited over from the USA and other parts of the world. Chinese started getting employed, more jobs were created, and Chinese businessmen started to become business-savvy again in Deng's radical new communist society. Deng even went as far as to say, "Poverty isn't communism. To be rich is glorious." - a statement that will cause communist wokes to cringe.
Xiaomi was a Chinese company that faced competition in a communist free market
Xiaomi was founded on April 6, 2010. The statement that companies need to be competent first before opening the country to MNCs is absurd. The legal fronts of the CPP-NPA such as IBON Foundation, Bayad Muna, Kayabangan Partylist, Anakpatis, Gagabriela, etc. can just ALL WHINE. Xiaomi was founded in China during a year when other smart technology companies such as Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, etc. were competing in China. Did these companies crush Xiaomi? Instead, Xiaomi learned new technologies and they weren't of competition. It's just like how Tony Tancaktiong of Jollibee wasn't afraid of McDonald's and Wendy's. Now, Jollibee now becoming a worldwide franchise. Xiaomi is now a global brand too.
Meanwhile, Koryolink in North Korea is from an isolated part of the world. How could Koryolink even prove itself? Xiaomi managed to start learning new stuff based on competition. Koryolink's being in an isolated plane didn't help it grow. Koryolink couldn't prove itself better than Samsung or Sony. Xiaomi was forced to compete from 2010 up to the present with other global brands in China. Xiaomi didn't whine and cry out for protectionism. Instead, Xiaomi decided to show that they can defeat their foreign competitors from democratic countries. Xiaomi surely developed its technologies to match up with their rivals. If the rivals weren't there then Xiaomi won't be able to come up with its smart technologies today. It would have been like Koryolink - an obscure brand that will never reach global heights.
