The Gray Areas Of The Anti-Terrorist Bill, #JunkTerrorBill, And #ReviseTerrorBill

Nothing speaks stupidity like Jover Laurio's Pignoy Ako Blog and their supporters huh? I did want to label Catriona Gray as a "brainless bimbo" (that is a beautiful woman without brains like Angel Locsin Colmenares and Shaina Garcia Magdayao) - I do have to respect her stance above. Unfortunately, Benign0 of Get Real Philippines was already jumping into conclusions when it said that only communists and terrorists are afraid of the new anti-terrorism law. Unfortunately, the proposed amendment of the law (Section 26) read by Far Eastern University's law dean Melencio Sta. Maria does show one great risk. That is, Sta. Maria does warn that nobody should be arrested or detained based only on suspicion.

So what's Catriona's stand hence the pun? Consider that #JunkTerrorBill can mean more than one thing. It might mean to junk the CURRENT version of the terrorism bill. It doesn't mean people who oppose the current version that seriously needs to be restudied for any loopholes or possible power abuse are terrorists. It's just that if the current anti-terrorism law is defective them it must be junked then a better one should come out in its place. Fortunately, she has clarified that #JunkTerrorBill is actually to #ReviseTerrorBill. I wonder if Jover is actually for getting rid of the law entirely or just for revisions? Can't be too sure though since Jover's possible links to communist organizations is just a speculation. Yes, I agree that it can be and should be better. She also states that like myself - she's in for revision of the anti-terrorism bill but it should be cleared of provisions that will allow abuse of power and human rights violations.

In my case, I really am in favor of #ReviseTerrorBill, not #JunkTerrorBill. It would be right to tag #JunkTerrorBill if the revisions are not made. Then a newer, better version of the bill will replace what was junked. Just because something is junked doesn't mean it can't be fixed. It's just like your work has been junked back to you because you need to make revisions. The bill itself needs to make provisions that will defend the right to due process, punish abusive policemen and soldiers, and make sure that innocent people are protected.

At this point, I wonder how many people after reading Catriona's statement are well, butthurt? It's because Catriona isn't really against the existence of such a bill. Then again I wonder what about the sad state of really low reading comprehension here in the Philippines if they can understand what Catriona is spelling out in plain, simple English?
