The Oligarchs Are Fighting For Their Own Self-Interests In The Name Of Nationalism

This is the heated debate of easing restrictions right now. We have idiots like Hilario Davide Jr. making his absurd statement about foreign investors and those who lie that only foreign investors will get rich if they are allowed to invest in the Philippines. If you want to know the reality (and this doesn't take a doctorate in economics or business management to know this -- just basic knowledge in economics) it's all about self-interest.

How can I say it's all about self-interest? I don't have much knowledge in economics but it's easy to think about the reality. The oligarchy hates competition because it means they have to do better or die out in the long run. Competition itself is a very key motivator in continuous innovative thinking -- that is frequently coming up with new changes in order to keep up with the competition. Why do you think more and more new ideas come up even in the stone age? You can think of how cavemen got out of the stone age thanks to competition.

The oligarchy wants little to no competition. So they lie that they are "defending" the sovereignty of the Philippines by going against foreign investments that it will take over the Philippines. But here's the reality -- having competition means you can't sleep. It means innovators will not only have to introduce change but to make sure that it delivers better results. The aim is to get better all the time and learning from mistakes since you don't get better all the time.

With so little competition they basically dominate the Philippines as an oligarchpeloago. In other words, it's them oppressing Filipinos through their control as a small group of elite. You can't get alternatives because you only have one or very few choices. You only get one bad telco and another bad telco. You also get no choice but to pay higher because supply is so low and demand is so high. But the oligarchs don't care because all they care is their pockets -- never mind that there may come a day that when everything is destroyed that money can't be eaten.

Worse, some have even gotten so far as to even sabotage their competition or prevent competition from entering in. I remembered watching GMA-7 some time ago and ABiaS-CBN may have done some intentional sabotage for their own ratings for the noonbreak show. If I'm not wrong, some of them even sabotage the wiring works from other companies while they install theirs. In short, they don't value sportsmanship. The oligarchs aren't good sports!

This is why we need economic reform. As long as the oligarchs are there then don't expect improvement. After all, do you think the local businesses in first world countries would try to improve to world class if it wasn't for competition from foreign investors? It wouldn't happen because if they didn't face competition then there would be no reason to improve. Instead, it's all about having some good old healthy competition instead of derailing your competition.
