Meanwhile, the Anime doesn't seem to state that Bergan himself was either born without horns, lost his horns, or he's probably got strange-looking horns (reference above) that would look really funny if he removed his helmet. It doesn't explain either how he fits the armor with the V-insignia if ever he had V-shaped horns like an antelope. It's probably the final piece of accessory he puts on to protect his horns in battle or to hide from everyone he's got the oddest set of horns.
Voltes V episode 28 also had the scene where Emperor Zambojil offered Baron Lagour (Hrothgar, Dr. Armstrong in the dub) the latter's former position. Zambojil knew that he could have Lagour's help in building new weapons for his quest to rule the Universe. Lagour refused and was sentenced to death. Apparently, Bergan wasn't a noble but a slave who rose in the ranks. Perhaps, Zambojil was aware of Bergan's potential and decided to give him the rank of general. An earlier episode from the Anime had a giant Boazanian Beast Knight who had no horns but was granted horns. Apparently, the only slaves that really get into the bottom of Zambojil's list are those that displease him. Those that serve Zambojil well, horned or hornless, can expect to get some form of reward from him.
There's also my theory that some slaves are high-ranked slaves. In short, these slaves are privileged because of their use for the empire. Presumably, Bergan may have been General Gururu's (Zander in the dub) personal slave and showed great potential. Possibly, the emperor saw Bergan's knowledge in science and military would prove well without his position threatened. Heinel (Zardos) was useful to Zambojil but the former was a threat to his usurpation. Bergan being a hornless (if ever) would not threaten Zambojil's rule in contrast to Heinel.
I wonder how does Suzette Doctolero intend to work with this?
