One must address the issue of economic protectionism is a major problem. Why is that? It's overly protective with the policy that foreign firms may only own 40% and Filipinos own 60%, which is unfair. For what reason? Why are Filipinos allowed to own 50%-100% ABROAD while foreigners may only own 40% ownership in the Philippines. It's no doubt there is the reality of the rich oppressor and the oppressed poor. That's the reality of places especially where the gap between rich and poor is that big from the Philippines to South American countries to countries like Bangladesh. However, we must note that not all rich people are oppressors and not all poor people are oppressed. I wrote an article on why most OFWs usually remain poor . Now it's time to see the woes of most OFWs during the holiday season. Like it or not, most of them aren't able to go home because not every country celebrates Christmas (ex. Middle Eastern countries). One can consider the reality of the OFW especially when it comes to relathieves to take them for granted. From what I have observed a lot of them are into menial jobs or graveyard jobs. For example, jobs like being domestic helpers and nurses aren't easy to leave posts. Again, no job is. For countries like Singapore, some of their bosses may consider giving a Christmas break. There is always the value of filial piety but respect is a mutual cycle. Authorities and subordinates are required to respect each other. The problem of some Failipinos is that they believe in the value that, "Because I'm older then I'm always to be followed." This is the problem that creates a cycle of mistakes one way or another. At home, we have the mentality that "parents are always right"... it's just as bad as overindulging the children because it breeds rebellion. Firecrackers seem to be integrated into Christmas and New Year. However there's been a list of prohibited firecrackers that continue to persist in Failipino culture, even if some Filipino authorities have already and clearly BANNED THEM for being too dangerous. It's a common problem to have post-Christmas and post-New Year woes. The typical Pinoy mindset is set on fiestas over hard work, one wants to have a lavish celebration , isn't it any wonder why many Pinoys remain poor? I hope I can write this as an eye opener. Knowing that it's Christmas and New Year around the corner, one may consider the reality that parties are inevitable. The word party can evoke many thoughts from a simple gathering to a really lavish party. I just read of two Chinese passengers that got into trouble for allowing their toddlers to poo on the seat which is a huge act of rudeness ( source ). Although the Marcos 1972 Constitution is gone but one rule was never removed when the 1987 Constitution was written - it was the rule of economic protectionism. I just read the latest issue involving the execution of OFW, Carlito Lana (by beheading) last December 11, 2014 . He was executed for murdering a Saudi national.
